Hello I'm one of the new Admins on the Pretty Little Liars Wiki......since both Pretty Little Liars and The Vampire Diaries are both getting spin-offs.......can I ask how to create a Portal like the one you guys did to "Portal:The Originals" ? Any tips?
Make a page similar to your main page, using only information about Ravenswood instead of PLL. It is good if you add pics or a slider, add as much as info you can, but don't clog the page with unnecessary things. Then add a picture and a link from your main page to your portal.
Hi, I have a complaint about a user that keeps messing with our page his or her name is "Formethersnotomorrow".They have been annoying a lof of users for awhile, to the point where a couple of people don't visit the wiki anymore. There are a lot of users that work hard on the DELENA site only for this user to undo all there work. I'd like for this person to just leave the page alone. Thanks, also no one else has a problem with our page only this user and they have been causing fights for ages. I'm sure they will try to deny this, but this person is what they call a Internet troll.
Hi, I just wanted to say that I'm this person, Formetheresnotomorrow. I'm posting as an Anonymous user because, obviously, my account has been blocked. Now I'm going to respect the decision to block me, so I'm not going to post anymore after this one message or edit any articles as an Anonymous user.
But I just wanted to say one thing, which is I don't really feel like I deserve this at all. I've spent a lot of time working on the Delena page myself, and it's true that I've been disagreeing with most other Delena users, BUT I've always tried to have civilized discussions, I've never offended anyone with my comments at least intentionally, and I've ALWAYS made arguments for the points I was trying to make. Read the comments on the Delena page, read the discussions I've had on some of the Delena fan's profile page; like I said, I've always been civilized... My intention were never to cause anyone any harm, and I simply genuinely disagree with the direction some of the things were going on the Delena page, and therefore I tried to change things.
But while I've been civilized and trying to make arguments, on the other hand, it's not the case for the other Delena users: all they ever did was telling me "this is the way the page should be", and not telling me why, not giving arguments for it, and giving me hate and telling me to leave "their" page when clearly, not only is this not anyone's page as it's a community wiki, but I've also worked hard on the page myself since I've been here.
So yeah I've been getting a lot of hate and also getting ignored even though I've always been civilized and trying to make arguments for the points I was making. That left me frustrated. But now I'm even more frustrated, because I've actually been banned for all of this. I'll respect the decision, but I feel like this is completely wrong and undeserved. With all due respect, I don't think you've looked into the whole thing carefully enough if you simply came to the conclusion that I was "trolling" and then banned me for it.
All I've ever wanted was to contribute to the wiki and help improve the pages, and now I'm getting punished for what I thought was trying to make things better...
Noctis and I were chatting earlier http://vampirediaries.wikia.com/wiki/Thread:559881#9, about the debate between the- s's and -s'. For example, is it “Silas’ Lover” or “Silas’s Lover”? I am submitting this to you in hopes that there can be an agreement on this subject, and we can develop a uniform method. Unfortunately, I found that they are both grammatically acceptable; there is no hard and fast rule.
If you read the following link, http://www.wikihow.com/Use-Apostrophes,
point #2 on wikihow.com states that “The Jones’ house” is acceptable, but “The Jones’s house” is preferable. They go on to mention that no matter which style you prefer in your writing, it should be consistent throughout the material.
One of my favorite go-to websites for grammar is called Grammar Girl. If you read the next link http://grammar.quickanddirtytips.com/apostrophe-plural-grammar-rules.aspx (at least read the first 3 very small paragraphs) you will see that the U.S. Supreme Court has encountered the same issue of –s’ vs -s’s. Grammar Girl goes on to mention that different schools or styles of writing prefer one over the other, but there isn’t a generally agreed upon rule (i.e. APA format prefers -‘s and Chicago Style prefers –s’s). I believe I am correct in thinking that those 'styles' of writing are typically used in academic settings by students/grads/researchers for writing papers/articles/journals; not a wiki.
Gray Areas
-The Sing-Song Effect-
I think a lot of the controversy and confusion occurs in our minds when we verbalize the literature we are conveying. For example, if I were to say, “Hey mom, I am going to Klaus’ house after school,” when verbalized, it sounds like, “Hey mom, I am going to Klaus house after school.” As you can see, ‘Klaus house’ produces a song-song effect. In the personal grammatical dictionary of my mind, I would write this as “Klaus’s house,” pronounced like “Klauses house” to avoid something that.
-When Using –s’s becomes a Mouthful-
Furthermore, outside of the sing-song effect, there are names that may constitute an -s’. If a name is a mouthful, as last names often are, it could be more reasonable to use an -s’. For example, a common last name in my small town is ‘Bridges.’ If one were to answer the phone by saying, “This is the Bridges’s residence,” it catalyzes something that sounds like two -es’s pushed together, that could be mistaken for a stutter. Instead, one would say, “This is the Bridges’ residence.”
The two above examples are my personal opinions, and you are welcome to do what you will with them. They’re intended to engage your mind, and make you consider there may be a gray area. If you have the luxury of having a friend or acquaintance with a name that ends in an ‘s’ I encourage you to formulate a sentence using their name in a possessive form, and verbalize it out loud. Are you pronouncing it “Alanis’s phone” or “Alanis’ phone” / “James’s phone” or “James’ phone”?
Conclusion-
It’s up to you, as admins, to decide if and how you want to address this. A wiki is a very different, more lax device than any academic entity, and as I have corroborated, either is acceptable. First you must decide if you want to make this wiki grammatically analogous by utilizing one of these rules, instead of both (as it is now). Then you must decide which one is the best fit. Please weigh in below on your thoughts.
When it it singular it's like this: Silas's lover. But when we have more members to it, for example the residence of the Salvatores, we will use The Salvatore's residence. That's how I've been taught.
Yea I've never used it like Messages'. That seems weird in my opinion, but I've never wrote things using it like that. I mean the title of this page should be cleared up as well I suppose, Klaus'_Pack
This should be very well established and clarified.
The relationship between Elena and Stefan, Elena and Damon, Caroline and Niklaus, as well as the situations in the pages of actors, writers, etc., some users are worried these situations, because there are some insults, confrontation. I was able to delete some comments, but. . . if we add this to the apostrophe,. . . I do not know if we can control the situation.
Alaric, Ehpacha, this depends on you two. You must decide what to do and what is the best option.
Alaric- I agree with you about "Silas's Lover" but with "Salvatore's Residence" the name 'Salvatore' ends in an e instead of an s, thus it wouldn't be applicable to the above situation, where someones name (singular) that ends in an s (like Klaus) and also shows ownership/possession (Klaus's phone). I know what I wrote was long, which allows for a higher margin of confusion, and my apologies if I caused any of that. Other than that, I think you got it =D
Ehpacha-You are right, Message is not a proper noun (someone's name) so Messages' wouldn't be right. I think the correct term would be Messages Wall without any apostrophes, but plural because it allows for more than one message on the wall.
Noctis-Totally agree that it may cause additional chaos between users. Since the season finale was just a few days ago, and several controversial things occurred (Silfan, Delena, Human Kat) we are prob encountering a higher user volume. If you guys do decide to make a change, and the user volume subsides in a few weeks, it may not be a bad idea to try it then. Just a thought though.
In the last episode Katherine became a human, i think?
But what if Katherine was Siles? Klaus is back, so asumed Katherine heard about he being back and killing the dead witch? So most likely, Katherine is in Hawaii and Siles has the cure?
Hey, I made a wikia about The Vampire Diaries spin-off "The Originals". Could you please add a portal to go there? It will be a completley different series so I think it atleast deserves its own wikia page. Link: www.originals.wikia.com
