Marty Hammond was a human who first appeared in the seventeenth episode of the seventh season of The Vampire Diaries. He died during a truck crash while drunk driving.

Marty was a former merchant marine who had become an alcoholic. Marty also worked for a charter bus company.

Season Seven[]
In I Went to the Woods, Marty gets into a drunk car accident and dies. When the Phoenix Stone was destroyed, Stefan Salvatore possessed his corpse.
In One Way or Another, Valerie performs a soul-swap spell to transfer Stefan's soul back into his original body, while transferring Ambrose's spirit into Marty's deteriorating corpse.
Personality[]
It is unknown, but it's been suggested that he had demons of his own since he was an alcoholic, which lead to his death.
Physical Appearance[]
He wore ragged clothes and had a messy hairstyle. He had shaggy, dirty blonde hair and dark, blue eyes. In a previous photo of him, Marty had a cleaner appearance and was clean shaven, with slight facial hair on his chin. Marty had a tattoo of an anchor on his arm.

- Marty is a Latin baby name and means "of Mars" or "warlike". It could also be a shortened variation of Martin.[1]
- Hammond is German. It derives from the Old German word Haimund for house or home protector.[2]

- According to the casting sides, Marty is a vessel for a century-old vampire spirit that was stuck in the Phoenix Stone and is a drunk truck driver.[3][4]
