Luc Benoit was a character who appeared in the third book of The Originals novel series. He was a young blond-haired human who was turned into vampire by Rebekah Mikaelson, one of the Original vampires and a member of the Mikaelson Family.

History[]

Luc Benoit had been born in the New World. He had all the restless curiosity of an explorer, and the casual confidence of a boy who had been raised to believe he could tackle any challenge that came his way. Wolves, bears, and whip-fast alligators had prowled the bayou around him, so he had never bothered with learning to fear the unknown.

Before being turned, Luc had fallen in with a gang of privateers, bullying the British along the northern coasts, and when that work was done he had simply kept on tormenting others for profit. He had become exactly the kind of shiftless troublemaker that Klaus was rounding up now to form his ludicrous "army," and in fact Klaus had already recruited him when Rebekah had first met him. She'd had no choice but to make Luc a vampire herself, saving him from a fate tied to Klaus' endless, futile attempts at self-destruction. Since Klaus had only ever managed to destroy everyone around him, emerging unscathed again and again, Rebekah saw that Luc was far too handsome to end up dead.

The Originals Novels Series[]

The Resurrection[]

Luc was hanging with Rebekah somewhere in the countryside of New Orleans. He was invited by her as she thought his easy attitude towards life and humor might break through the gloom when she found Marguerite dead. They ride their horses through a low hill and decide to stop at an inn for daybreak. When he starts asking a few questions, Rebekah kisses him and he returns another back to her. He listens as she tells him about her family and the curse of becoming a vampire, and is straightforward in his responses when hearing about it. When they arrive at the inn, he follows a groom to the stables so their horses could be tended to. He comes back to her side and the two begin feeding on the people at the inn, and then making love to each other.

They get closer to Mystic Falls and he teasingly asks Rebekah if anyone is expecting them. They come upon the White Oak Tree and Rebekah reveals that she plans on using the tree to kill one of her brothers. The two see a man and introduces himself as Tomás, Luc then tries to attack him, but Tomás throws a shimmering powder in his eyes, causing Luc to react violently in pain. He is then laid amongst the roots of the tree while Rebekah goes to confront Tomás. After Rebekah awakens from being hit by the substance Tomás threw, Luc stirs underneath the oak tree and awakens, attacking Rebekah and calling her an "abomination". He breaks a branch off the tree, stabbing her in the shoulder and they fight once more. When he sends her spinning into the trunk of the tree, he looms over her and with the stake in hand, he pierces her heart. Not much long afterwards, Luc calls to her and brings her back, kissing her passionately, exclaiming that it was her heart and wanting to live that brought her back. The two walk arm in arm towards town as they have plenty to do.

He wakes Rebekah up when she sits by Elijah's side. She asks where he had been and he says he's been trying to track Tomás for days. They begin kissing and head to Rebekah's room, telling a human butler to get Lisette to watch Elijah. They then make love in her room and tells her that he shouldn't have left her side.

While Klaus and Rebekah talk about sacrificing a hundred vampires for Elijah's spell to be lifted, Luc comes down the staircase and offers his assistance in helping. He reveals that Tomás has been posing as a merchant and has warehouses by the river, and Lisette leads him out to spread the word to the others so everything is prepared.

When the battle is about to begin, Luc talks to Klaus about Sampson and his wolves, and heads toward the warehouse door. When Rebekah and Klaus arrive at their home, Luc is there and says he's been making a circuit of the staircases, but hasn't seen anybody come down since he got there. He grabs Lisette and dragged her backwards when they are trying to stop Tomás with the ritual. He and Lisette begin fighting and rolling around on the floor, trying to get the one up on the other. Unknown to others, Luc grabs the pouch of vinaya powder and reveals that he had the White Oak stake hiding in his boot. They try to convince him to hand over the two items, and Rebekah realizes that Luc had been meeting up with Tomás with the days he wasn't around. Luc says he was given the truth by Tomás and believed at first becoming a vampire would've been freedom, but believes the Originals have more power. Elijah lurches at Luc and before the stake pierces through Elijah, Lisette comes inbetween and the stake goes through her heart instead. Luc is then thrown into a pile of paintings by Rebekah and she plunges the stake into his heart, and his hand shoots out with Lisette's blood on it, and places his hand on the symbols Tomás had carved. His body then slumps to the floor and his life edges out of him, and his corpse lay opposite of Tomás, just like Janus. Rebekah takes the the stake out of his chest, closed his eyes and took the vinaya powder away as well, deciding she'll let him burn.

Personality[]

Luc was an adventurous young man and is shown to be very romantic towards Rebekah. He was calm, considerate and well-mannered. He is very straightforward and was a bit of a tease.

He then showed his true colors to her, with this side revealed as being manipulative and traitorous. He reveals all he longed for was freedom and thought becoming a vampire would give him that, but saw that Rebekah and her brothers had more power over anyone.
