The best people are black sheep.

Kol Mikaelson (Elder Futhark: ᚲᛟᛚ ᛗᛁᚲᚨᛖᛚᛋᛟᚾ) is a major recurring character on The Originals. He also had a recurring role in the third, fourth and fifth season of The Vampire Diaries, where he served as an antagonist and anti-hero. Kol is also the main protagonist of the short web series The Originals: The Awakening.

Kol is the third son of Mikael and Esther. He is the younger brother of Freya, Finn, Elijah and older brother of Rebekah and Henrik and the younger half-brother of Klaus. He is the uncle of Freya and Mathias' unborn son, Klaus and Hayley's daughter, Hope, and Freya and Keelin's son, Nik.

Throughout his life, Kol struggled emotionally with his status as the black sheep of the family, and the belief that his siblings considered him to be more of a nuisance than their own brother. He was shown to be rather spiteful and jealous over Marcel Gerard, whom he perceived was treated more like family than he ever was. As a result of this insecurity, Kol often lashed out violently which earned him a dangerous reputation and on occasion, the ire of his siblings. In reality, his bad behavior is revealed to be simple cries for attention.

During the fourth season of The Vampire Diaries, Kol feared the return of Silas and was adamant about stopping him. He antagonized the Mystic Falls Gang and at one point Elena Gilbert proposed a truce between them. However, the truce was really a setup to kill Kol and it ultimately led to his demise at the hands of Jeremy Gilbert in A View to a Kill. In the fifth season, Kol was seen on the Other Side as it was slowly collapsing due to Markos' emergence. He encountered Matt Donovan and expressed fear for himself and the other supernatural beings on the Other Side. Kol told Matt to warn everybody who was alive.

Kol escaped the destruction of The Other Side as seen in the second season of The Originals. His mother, Esther managed to resurrect him and place him into the body of a young witch named Kaleb Westphall. He temporarily aided his mother and his recently resurrected brother, Finn, but quickly followed his own agenda. He ended up pursuing a relationship with the young witch Davina Claire, and joined his brothers Klaus and Elijah, where he ultimately helped them defeat Esther and their father Mikael, once and for all. However, in retaliation for assisting his brothers in stopping their mother by turning her into a vampire, Finn hexed Kol with a deadly spell in Sanctuary. He consequently died for the second time in I Love You, Goodbye, surrounded by his family and girlfriend. Moments before Kol's death, Rebekah promised to bring Kol back.

While looking for ways to bring back Kol in Wild at Heart, Davina casted a suspension spell and poisoned herself in order to access the Ancestral Plane to see Kol and confirm if a spell The Strix gave her could actually resurrect him. Although the spell is an effective one, Kol tried to lie and say it wasn't because he was worried about the consequences of using it. As Davina is discovered and flees from the Ancestors' realm, she realizes Kol's attempt at deception for her protection. Kol holds the Ancestors off long enough for his girlfriend to escape.

In Heart Shaped Box, Davina uses a Hand of Glory to bring Kol forth from the Ancestral Plane in order to figure out the missing ingredient for the Sireline Unlinking Spell. He attempts to lie to her by saying that the spell is impossible to break, but she uses her intuition and logic to figure out that the missing ingredient is an unsired heart which Kol devastatingly confirms. After Kol draws magic from the Hand of Glory to knock her out in order to effectively put down the rest of the Sisters that were attempting to extract Hayley's heart, Davina wakes up a few hours later. She looks at the Hand of Glory and becomes upset that they have wasted so much time. She tearfully tells him that she loves him and shares a goodbye kiss with him before the candle blows out and Kol is sent back to the Ancestral Plane.

In A Streetcar Named Desire, Kol is successfully resurrected in his true form as an Original Vampire by Davina. In An Old Friend Calls, Kol tells Davina her spell brought him back how he was when he died in the body she resurrected, his true body, which was an Original Vampire. After she made him a daylight ring, Kol is reunited with all of his siblings and received a warm welcome from all his siblings except for his murderous brother Finn and Rebekah who was daggered for her own safety after being afflicted by the Cursed Stake.

In Behind the Black Horizon, it was revealed by Davina that the Ancestors had corrupted the spell that brought him back to life, causing him to want to rip out Davina's throat, making him slowly become more feral and to give in to his heightened bloodlust until he does. The more he resists killing Davina, the more Kol becomes savage and thirsty for blood to the point he was a mindless animal looking only to feed, beyond thought or reason. It was only after he killed Davina that a horrified Kol was released from the curse, and he was devastated for having unknowingly killed the love of his life.

In The Bloody Crown, after Marcel completed his transition into an Upgraded Original Vampire, he used his toxic werewolf bite on both Kol and Elijah as revenge for Davina's death from Elijah's betrayal, and for Kol having unwillingly killed Davina due to the Ancestors. A poisoned Freya saves Kol, Elijah, Rebekah, and herself by using the spell Dahlia cast to survive a thousand years, to put them all in a slumber in stasis to prevent the poisons from killing them until Hayley can find cures for them. They are linked to a neutralized Klaus' lifeforce, while their minds are in a Chambre de Chasse, to be with each other in peace until they awake.

In the fourth season, he is cured from the bite and heads to France with Rebekah. They return back to New Orleans after Elijah's temporary death and he finds that The Hollow has brought Davina back to life. When The Hollow possesses Hope, he and his siblings use themselves to separate the Hollow's spirit and he leaves for San Francisco. Seven years later, it is also revealed that he and Davina are now married.

Kol is a member of the Mikaelson Family and an unnamed Witch Family.

Early History[]

Mystic Falls, The Middle Ages, 10th Century[]

OriginalsasKids2

Young Kol with his siblings

During the Middle Ages, Kol was born in a small village, now known as Mystic Falls. He lived with his family as a human, up until his younger brother, Henrik, was killed by werewolves. It was because of this tragedy that his mother, Esther (who is the Original Witch), and his father, Mikael, decided to take action to protect the rest of their family. Esther performed the Immortality Spell at Mikael's request. She then gave her children wine laced with Tatia's blood and then had Mikael kill their children. Later, Mikael forced them to feed on human blood, thus turning them into the Original Vampires. After the death of Esther, the various members of the Original Family all went different ways and it can be assumed that Kol made his way to Europe around this time.

Before becoming a vampire, Kol practiced magic as a witch and was, according to him, very talented. He even described himself as something of a child prodigy. Kol was also the only one of his siblings to tap into his power and awaken his magic, and so, loved the rush and thrill it gave him. However, when he was turned into a vampire he lost his power and these thrills and was no doubt dismayed. In order to get a similar thrill to what magic once gave him, Kol, as a vampire, became a violent, formidable and feral force.

When Klaus told his siblings that Mikael had murdered their mother, they all ran from home together, fleeing in fear from their father.

Kol during his early days as a vampire

After hearing Mikael had killed their mother, Kol fled from home with his siblings for months. They stuck together and fed on people in the countryside. One particular night, after attacking a carriage, Kol fed indiscriminately on one of their victims and was annoyed to have to spend time to hide the bodies. Elijah explained that if the bodies were found, word of their presence might reach Mikael. Feeling aimless and not knowing where to go, Kol suggested that they split up in order to better avoid Mikael. While Finn agreed with the notion, Elijah was quick to put it down, reminding them of their family vow of staying together always and forever.

KolCastle

After attacking a caravan belonging to five nobles in fine clothing who were clearly traveling to a nearby castle, Rebekah suggested that they take their victims' clothing and pose as them so they could live more comfortable lives. They discovered a servant of the castle who had overheard their idea of posing as the guests. He offered to help them with their ruse but the siblings couldn't decide whether to let him live or die. They put it to a vote, with Kol wanting to gut him since he only saw him as a dessert. Klaus had the deciding vote to let him live. The servant, Lucien, brought them into the castle and instructed them on how to properly behave themselves, brushing Kol's hair out of his face, to which Kol threatened to pull his arms off if he touched him again. After almost being discovered, the count welcomed them into his court.

Later that year, Kol began feasting on the local villagers indiscriminately, prompting them to believe they were being attacked by demons. Lucien warned Klaus that if Kol continued to give in to his decadence, the Mikaelsons wouldn't be able to stay much longer. Unknown to them, one of Kol's victims had survived the attack and told the count's son, Tristan, that it had been Kol who attacked her, though he had the face of a beast. Tristan revealed to Klaus and Elijah that Kol's behavior had given away their ruse. Kol's behavior, along with Klaus and Lucien's as well as the turning of Aurora and Lucien, contributed to the Mikaelsons fleeing from France. After they fled France, Kol, along with his four siblings settled in Tuscany, Italy.

Italy[]

Throughout this time, Kol was in eastern Europe, presumably making the Originals famous with his actions along with Klaus; killing and turning people indiscriminately. Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah had heard rumors of his actions from their own travels, as mentioned by Elijah. Kol would later join his family in Italy where he went to a party held at a vampire hunter named Alexander's home. He was later daggered in a surprise attack but revived by his brother Klaus (who was unaffected by the daggers thanks to his hybrid powers).

Kol spent much time traveling on his own, often with witches, hoping to reclaim a connection to the magic that he had lost when he became a vampire. He spent time with witches in Africa in the 14th century, Haiti in the 17th century. During his time in Africa, Kol learned about medicinal herbs and remedies from a shaman in Uganda. All the witches he traveled with told apocalyptic tales about the immortal Silas, and how he would bring about the end of time. In his travels, Kol came across a cult that worshiped Silas. Fearing that the stories he had been told might be true, Kol murdered the entire cult, prompting him to believe Silas would never rise. While in Arabia, Kol learned the practice of Kemiya, and became an expert in its craft, despite not being able to personally use it as a vampire.

Elijah and Klaus dagger Kol

In 1702, Kol's violence in Spain drew too much attention. This brought his father, Mikael, straight to the family, burning the country in his wake. While the flames drew closer and Mikael beheaded Klaus' horse, Elijah and Klaus searched for Kol while Rebekah brought the daggered Finn onboard a ship to flee from Europe. They found Kol in a tavern where he drank and feasted on humans carelessly. Despite their warnings of Mikael's impending arrival, Kol refused to flee, believing Mikael was only after Klaus and that they could just leave him and he'd be fine. When Klaus and Elijah insisted, Kol attempted to resist them but was subdued by Elijah, as Klaus pulled out a White Oak Ash Dagger. Kol struggled, panicked by the betrayal, and promised Klaus that a day would come when he would not be so easily subdued. He was then daggered and neutralized. Kol remained daggered when the family fled Europe and traveled to the New World. It was shown that Kol was actually neutralized at the time of the Original's arrival in New Orleans. The coffin that held his daggered body was brought to shore and kept in the Original's home until the 1800s.

Kol is undaggered by Klaus

In 1821, after Elijah seemed to be taking Klaus' own young ward, Marcellus Gerard, under his wing, Klaus felt he needed someone to have fun with. He undaggered Kol against Elijah's wishes. Elijah rushed to Kol's coffin to find him awakened and already feeding without discretion on humans that Klaus had offered to him as an apology for daggering him. Kol and Klaus began causing trouble together, killing what was reported to be forty-six people in a building. Kol mused that the body count was probably at least sixty, saying that the reports had probably forgotten the victims in the attic. Later, Kol showed Marcellus the theater by compelling a large number of people to perform Hamlet. By using compulsion, Kol ensured that all of the murders within the story were actually enacted, resulting in the real deaths of the actors. Kol forced Marcellus to watch it until Elijah showed up to stop him.

Kolundaggered2

Kol revealed that he was just training Marcellus on how to be a vampire since he knew that Klaus eventually wanted Marcellus to transition. Kol revealed that he had already fed the boy his blood, and so he told Elijah that all he had to do was kill him. Furious, Elijah grabbed Kol and condemned him for his vile and sadistic imagination. Klaus intervened, telling Elijah to let Kol go. When Kol thanked Klaus, his half-brother daggered him yet again. Elijah stood over Kol's coffin, tidying up his body while apologizing for his daggering. He said that it was for Klaus' own benefit since Klaus needed Marcellus and it would be impossible for that relationship to blossom with Kol around, due to Kol's tendency to lash out and his "bad influence" over Klaus.

Kol plots to dagger Klaus

Kol was undaggered again by Klaus in 1901 and lived in New Orleans with his siblings. Kol had a strong and deep relationship with the witches of New Orleans, and despite the rumors that he would use them and discard them, he actually held them in high regard. But, despite that, by 1914, a war began brewing between the witches of the city: some were allied with Kol, and others followed Klaus. Kol believed that if Klaus will have his way, all the witches would be wiped out and the city would be overrun with vampires. Seeking to ensure the safety of the future generations of witches, Kol and his witches planned to get rid of Klaus and his witch followers. Using his extensive knowledge of witchcraft, Kol taught his witches, Mary-Alice and Astrid, how to create dark objects using Kemiya, a type of magic he had learned in Arabia. Some of these objects include the Devil's Star, a rosary that would drive men to madness, shackles that would cut off a witches power and a bracelet that would force obedience. All of the dark objects were created so that Kol could utilize a form of magic without being a witch himself, and he planned to use them to scare Klaus and the witches that followed him. Kol hoped that Mary-Alice and Astrid would grow experienced enough to create a dagger that would be able to work on Klaus, hiding their secret endeavors in a tomb in the Lafayette Cemetery.

Despite their efforts, his witches were unable to turn the silver dagger into gold so it would work on Klaus. Kol's impatience and desperation to dagger Klaus caused a rift between him and his followers. Kol revealed his brutal nature when he slaughtered half a church parish, despite the fact that his goal was only to kill one woman. He had reasoned that if she were dead, he would be able to enter her home to find a large paragon diamond that they could use to channel more magic. Kol and his witch allies managed to break into the dead witch's house and find the diamond. However, when Kol left, he was confronted by Klaus and Marcel. Klaus forced Kol to hand over the paragon diamond. Klaus then had one of his witches trap Mary-Alice and Astrid inside the mansion forever, much to Kol's dismay.

Kol receives a dagger for Christmas

Sometime around this point, Kol crossed paths with his older sister Freya Mikaelson, though he wasn't aware of her true identity. Freya befriended with him in hopes of being able to get a glimpse of all her siblings, and it can be presumed that Kol intended to befriend her so that she might help him to create the dagger that would work on Klaus. Shortly after, at his family's Christmas party of December 1914, Kol stepped out of the party to search for the paragon diamond in Klaus' room, still intent on going through with his plan. However, Rebekah caught him rummaging through Klaus' things. Kol told her about his plan to create a dagger that would work on Klaus, and Rebekah agreed to help him, telling him to get back to the party before his absence was noticed. It was then revealed that Kol had attended the party with his sister Freya, where she crossed paths with Rebekah for the first time, and they shared a toast to each other from across the room. The evening was at first progressing in Kol's favor. However, Rebekah had lied to Kol and had already told Klaus of his plan and desire to reclaim the diamond. During a family speech, Klaus revealed that he knew about Kol's plan. Kol, knowing his plan had been squashed, fled up the stairs but was stopped by Elijah. Elijah held Kol down as Klaus daggered him, neutralizing him for another few decades.

When their father Mikael managed to track them down in 1919, the Original family fled, and Kol's body was kept with Klaus for almost 100 years until he was freed by Elijah in Bringing Out The Dead, waking up in Mystic Falls.

Throughout The Vampire Diaries Series[]

Kol neutralized

Kol Neutralized...again.

Kol first appeared in Bringing Out The Dead, where his brother Klaus undaggered him, brandishing the newly freed dagger against Elijah after they fought before he re-daggered Kol. Later, when Klaus sent Elijah to see if Damon Salvatore kept his word on the deal they had just made, Elijah doubled back and secretly took the dagger out of Kol and the rest of his siblings, whereupon they all gathered and used their daggers to attack Klaus before declaring that they would be a family without him. He was shocked when he saw his mother Esther arrive, believing her to have been killed by their father Mikael, when really she was just freed from the 4th coffin which had been locked and spelled, whose contents were unknown up until that moment.

In Dangerous Liaisons, Kol got ready for the ball at the Mansion along with his siblings and spoke of his good looks to his sister. Klaus threatened to dagger Rebekah once again because she had attempted to harm Elena. Kol interfered and told him to continue this conversation outside. At the ball, Kol introduced himself to Mayor Lockwood and Damon Salvatore, politely and rudely, respectively. He was seen dancing alongside all others at the ball.

Kol drank the champagne laced with Elena's blood.

He also consumed the champagne which linked him together with his siblings. Later on, Rebekah told Kol that she planned on killing Matt to make Elena suffer, but at the last moment Rebekah changed her mind and backed out. Kol introduced himself to Matt and while shaking hands, Kol began crushing his hand. Surprised by a brokenhearted Damon, Kol was pushed from the balcony and had his neck broken by Damon. All Originals came outside in order to see what happened. Damon walked away after replying to Stefan that he might be a little crazy.

In All My Children, Kol and Klaus were waiting at home when Rebekah came home from her night with Damon. At first, Kol started to make fun of her because he was bored and Klaus decided to go out with him. They met Alaric and Meredith at the Grill. Caroline came across and Klaus wanted her to have a drink, but she left. Klaus followed her, leaving Kol alone. Kol went over to Meredith who was playing pool. Trying to seduce her, she told him to get lost, but Kol stayed in spite of that. He then got stabbed by Alaric with the White Oak Ash Dagger.

As a result, all the other Originals except for Klaus were neutralized. He immediately knew that something must have happened to Kol. As he was transported away, Klaus rushed over to him, pulled the dagger out of Kol and incapacitated Stefan and Damon. Kol, Elijah, and Klaus then went to their mother's ritual, witnessing how the spirits abandoned her, since Abby Bennett Wilson got turned into a vampire by Damon. Klaus later informed Rebekah that Kol had fled Mystic Falls.

In The Murder of One, it is discovered that Kol and Klaus had been keeping in touch with each other and that Kol would be contacted by Klaus if he was needed. Kol had been tracking Jeremy in Denver. To get Bonnie to go through with a spell to break Esther's spell on the Originals, Klaus called Kol, who showed Bonnie he was with Jeremy and willing to kill him if she didn't do what Klaus said.

Soon after, in Heart of Darkness, when Elena and Damon went to pick Jeremy up from Denver, they discovered Kol was still there and that he had befriended Jeremy. At a batting cage, Kol revealed his true intentions to Jeremy and assaulted Damon with a wooden baseball bat which broke when it made contact with Damon. Kol picked up an aluminum bat, though he still wasn't comfortable with them since that type of baseball bat had not been around when Kol was daggered but acknowledged it wouldn't break when he used it.

He tried to hit Damon again, but the Salvatore brother impaled Kol with a piece of the broken wooden bat, stunning Kol for a brief time. This gave Elena, Jeremy and Damon time to escape. Kol then called Klaus and told him about Elena, Jeremy and Damon being in Denver while Klaus explained the secret that if an Original dies, their whole bloodline does. Kol then set off to a vampire named Mary Porter who had once been an "Original groupie" and who the Salvatores knew was part of their bloodline. Kol, anticipating that this would be his enemies' next move, got to Mary first, staked her and then waited patiently, his baseball bat still in hand.

It wasn't long until Damon and Elena got there and Kol confronted them. He got their hopes up into thinking that he was the one who turned Mary, therefore making him the genesis of their bloodline, but then went on a tangent that could implicate that any of his surviving siblings could have turned her. He then attacked Damon with the bat again, beating him brutally while also making sure Elena didn't leave. He scolded Damon for breaking his neck at the ball, killing Finn and for humiliating him. Only after the beating did he say they were now even and fled, satisfied with his victory.

In The Departed, after Klaus had been desiccated by his enemies in Mystic Falls, Kol was in agreement with Elijah and Rebekah that they should be given Klaus' body since he was their family. Kol agreed with Elijah's proposal that they would not try to retaliate against those who harmed their brother.

Kol's back.

In After School Special, Kol assisted Rebekah in her hunt for The Cure, abducting Professor Atticus Shane after seeing Bonnie on his way to Shane and bringing him to her. When Kol came to the school, he commented that Rebekah was worse than Klaus when seeing that she had compelled everyone. Then together, the siblings began to interrogate Shane on the location of the cure but soon discovered that he couldn't be compelled thanks to his mental training.

Kol started to torture the information out of him by dunking his head into a sink, threatening to drown him until Shane finally admitted that the cure was buried with Silas and to get the cure, you'd also have to release Silas. Kol was clearly spooked by the mention of Silas, having heard of him from old legends. Kol began to drown him again, almost killing him, until Rebekah told him to stop since he was no use to them dead. Kol didn't care and asked her if she didn't hear what Shane said and that Silas would kill them all.

Rebekah did not believe Silas was real, but Shane told her he was and he would bring back every last soul who died on his behalf. Kol then stabbed Shane with a metal rod, in hopes of murdering him and ending his plan to awaken the immortal. Rebekah was furious with her brother for this, but Kol continued to explain that Silas was too powerful for them and she was in no way prepared for what would happen if he was unleashed. To prove his point, Kol showed her that he was in possession of the White Oak Stake, which he had taken from her without her even noticing and with little effort. Kol left Shane bleeding out on the floor and with the stake in hand, having proven his point.

In Catch Me If You Can, Kol discovered the group of vampires Klaus had turned and sicked on Jeremy, in order for him to kill them so that his Hunter's Mark would grow. Kol, knowing that the search for the cure would also lead to Silas, slaughtered the group of vampires to prevent the continuation of the hunt. He confronted Damon and Jeremy, admitting that he was responsible for the massacre and then tried to convince Jeremy to stop trying to grow his mark, reminding him that they were friends back in Colorado, but Jeremy refused. Kol said that he would kill Jeremy, but he didn't want to fall victim to the curse of killing a member of The Five and be haunted for the next century so he instead threatened to tear his limbs off. He lunged for Jeremy but Damon stopped him, giving Jeremy time to escape, but Kol quickly regained the upper hand, overpowering Damon and taking him captive.

Kol tortured Damon by compelling him to stab himself with a long piece of wood before getting a call from Klaus who told him to leave Jeremy alone which Kol agreed to. However, he found a loophole in his compromise, compelling Damon to go after Jeremy for him. He then returned home where he was stopped by Rebekah who had learned of his compelling of Damon. She pointed a White Oak Ash Dagger at his back and Kol just told her if she was really willing to dagger her brother, she was no better than Klaus and that it was this type of action that had destroyed the family and made their older brother Elijah leave. When she persisted, Kol retaliated by drawing the White Oak Stake, which he had just recently confiscated from her, on his sister. She was stunned by this turn of events before being saved by Klaus who shoved Kol away, stopping the fight and saving Rebekah. Kol fled, leaving his siblings concerned about his next move and his inevitable assault on Jeremy Gilbert.

Kol trying to kill Bonnie

In A View to a Kill, Kol continued his attempts to stop the search for the cure. He attacked Bonnie in the high school and, showing his fangs, tried to murder her, but was subdued once she unleashed her newly learned expression on him. This gave her time to escape and run to Elena who had come to the decision to have Jeremy try and kill Kol to complete his Hunter's Mark. Kol received a call from Jeremy's phone, but it was really Elena, trying to set a meeting with him, under the pretense of a truce. Kol agreed to meet her, but it would be on his terms, arriving at Elena's front door. She said she'd only invite him in if he allowed Jeremy to leave which he agreed to, stepping inside to negotiate with her.

Kol talking to Elena about Silas

Kol and Elena began their talk and when she assumed that he had done something deserving of a dagger a century ago, Kol disagreed, telling her he'd done nothing and it was just Klaus' cruelty that had made him end up in a coffin. He then told her what he knew about Silas and how the immortal would turn the world into a living hell and it seemed, for a moment, his belief in Silas was beginning to make Elena realize what they were up against. Kol said he'd consider her plea for a truce before leaving. Soon after, Jeremy returned home but Kol followed behind, telling them he'd thought about the truce, but had decided against it.

Kol taunts Jeremy

Kol about to cut Jeremy's arms off.

Elena and Jeremy fled into the house, but having already been invited inside, Kol kicked open the door and stormed the home. He called Klaus, believing his brother was part of the scheme and despite Klaus' denial, Kol promised to go after him once he was finished with the Gilberts. Elena shot Kol with an arrow in the leg before fleeing upstairs and Kol pursued, smashing through doors and walls in a rage. Jeremy fired stakes at Kol but he easily caught them but was surprised by Elena firing wooden bullets that only stunned him briefly. He overpowered Elena, impaling her into a wall before grabbing Jeremy and bringing him into the kitchen. He again explained how he didn't want to fall victim to the Hunter's Curse by killing Jeremy so he was just going to cut off his tattooed arm with a knife.

Not knowing which arm it was on, though, and being unable to see it, he decided to just chop off both arms, but Elena intervened. She jabbed his knife into him and pinned him to the counter, using all of her strength just to hold him at bay for a moment while Jeremy used the nozzle in the sink to spray vervain-laced water onto Kol. Elena took this chance to snatch the White Oak Stake from Kol's jacket pocket and throw it to Jeremy who impaled Kol with it. Kol was set ablaze, running through the house in a last ditch effort of survival before collapsing and dying, his brother Klaus in the doorway, who was stunned and devastated by his younger sibling's death, but unable to enter the house to help him.

In Into the Wild, Kol's charred body is still on the floor of the Gilbert house where he had died. Klaus, now trapped in the living room by magical barriers Bonnie had put up, was mere feet away but could do nothing, forced to look at his little brother's burnt corpse. When Tyler and Caroline came to fix the damages to the house that Kol had made in the struggle, and in Tyler's case, gloat to Klaus, they found tarp and draped it over Kol's body, covering it so Klaus no longer had to see it, looking very somber as they did.

In Stand By Me, Kol's body had been moved from the floor and Caroline tried to scrub out the burn marks that were left on the floor after Kol's death but was unable to remove them.

In The Walking Dead, after Bonnie used the power of the Expression Triangle to break down the veil to the Other Side, ghosts with reason to return to Mystic Falls were able to come back within the confines of the triangle. Kol appeared at the Mystic Grill to find Rebekah with Matt Donovan, and told them Greetings from the dead. He was then telling them of his plans to exact revenge on Elena for her part in his death. He criticized his sister for how quickly she got over his death while continuing to question them on where he could find Elena. When Matt tried to stop him from going after Elena, Kol broke a bottle he was drinking from and threw it into Matt's arm, jokingly complimenting Rebekah on finally winning over the quarterback.

Jeremy vs Kol

Jeremy faces off against Kol.

Kol found Elena visiting Jeremy's grave and gave sarcastic condolences to her brother's passing before telling her that without Jeremy, it was just between the two of them. He taunted her on the ways he had wanted her to suffer since being on the Other Side before viciously attacking her, easily beating her down. Kol choked Elena and she finally gave in, telling him to kill her. Kol happily attempted to oblige but was ambushed by Jeremy, who had also returned from the Other Side. He gleefully prepared for another fight with Jeremy but had his neck broken from behind by Stefan. He was put somewhere safe until the veil would go back up.

Later, during the Mystic Falls High School graduation, Kol confronted Bonnie in the crowd, telling her that all of the vengeful hybrids and witches were among the spectators, ready to strike. He told Bonnie that he wanted her to drop the veil completely for him and his new friends. She led him to where her body was being kept, showing him that she was a ghost now too and wanted to stay just as much as he did. However, she put up a magical barrier so he wouldn't be able to leave, telling him that he'd stay there until the veil went back up that night. Kol was left trapped and furious. When Elena went searching for Bonnie and Jeremy, she bumped into where Kol was being kept. He attacked her again, hoping to settle their unfinished business, but before he could finish her, disappeared when the veil was put back up, returning to The Other Side.

Kol's ghost suddenly appeared, telling Matt that the Other Side had gone topsy turvy and that's why none of the residents were in complete solitude anymore. Kol noticed Matt was wearing the Gilbert Ring, knowing that it would allow him to be on the Other Side temporarily but would bring him back. Matt, happy to hear he could see other people on the Other Side, wanted to find his sister, Vicki Donovan, but Kol had never heard of her. Matt's mention of his sister caused Kol to look sad for a brief moment, possibly thinking of his own siblings. After Vicki got dragged away from the Other Side, Kol found a grieving Matt, telling him to stop grieving for someone who was already dead. Matt asked where she went but Kol didn't know and hoped he never would. He told Matt that the Other Side's depletion would take all of them if Matt didn't do something. He begged Matt to go back to his body and then tell everyone about what was happening on the Other Side because it would take every being that still resided there. This was the second time that Kol showed fear at something more powerful than he. When the Other Side collapsed, Kol was not seen.

TO 1x01 Kol in Coffin

Kol's neutralized body seen in flashback.

The first flashback scene consisted of their arrival in New Orleans in the 18th Century. Niklaus, Elijah and Rebekah lured a ship's crew onto their own, and while there, the crew discovered two coffins. It was then revealed that Kol was actually neutralized. After killing most of the crew, Elijah compelled the last crew member to ship their "luggage" to shore.

In Long Way Back From Hell, in flashbacks to the year 1919. Rebekah is surprised when her witch friend Genevieve tells her that she likes Klaus, saying that she had not expected Genevieve to want a 'bad boy.' She then says to Genevieve that if she likes bad boys, she would love her brother Kol. Rebekah then begins to tell her that Kol is not with them anymore after a family feud, possibly a reference to Kol's daggering early that century. Rebekah tells her that there is someone she wants to contact, who she has not seen in a long time. The nature of the conversation leads Genevieve to think that Rebekah wants her to contact Kol, but Rebekah tells her she thought of contacting her father Mikael.

In Farewell to Storyville, Kol was seen in a flashback where he and his siblings played, running and jumping on Finn, showing that they were happy. Klaus later mentions that he was the only one who was a victim of Mikael's abuse, while Finn, Elijah, and Kol were not. Klaus also mentions that he loved all of his siblings, even Kol who he was at odds with sometimes over the centuries.

In Rebirth, Kol first appears as Kaleb at the record store, flicking through records while Davina is talking to Joe. When Davina catches sight of him, Kol continues to watch her carefully as he leaves. He later runs into Davina again the next day, holding some records and commenting about how it is sad that the store isn't trading that day, but worse for her because they stocked lots of the Ancient Icelandic Folk music she was into. Davina insists it was for someone else before Kol offers her his hand and introduces himself as Kaleb. He tells her that she has a cool name but a terrible taste in music and Davina seems smitten with him.

Later, Esther and Finn are talking and Finn comments about how human bodies are so weak and that he forgot what it felt like to feel vulnerable. Kol appears and tells his mother that he loves his new body and is sure that Davina does too. Esther chastises him for being childish before sitting both of her sons down and informing them that they have a family reunion to plan.

In Alive and Kicking, Kol continued to possess the body of Kaleb, keeping an eye on Davina for his mother. He went with his mother and Finn to watch as moonlight rings were being created for their planned army of werewolves. Later, using his persona as Kaleb, he went on a date with Davina, learning about her past and discovered that they had both shared a controlling mother. When Davina left the table for a moment, he was confronted by Finn who told him to hurry it along. Kol cheekily told him that he was using his own charms to get the information they needed. Suddenly the bar was filled with werewolves who tried to attack Davina. Kol tried to defend her but was tossed aside with ease in his new body. Mikael suddenly arrived, having been summoned by Davina who had a magical leash on him since reviving him. Kol could only watch with shock at the sight of his father being alive and viciously slaughtering the werewolves for Davina. Elijah soon arrived, just as surprised by Mikael being alive. When Davina used her magic to send Mikael away, Elijah saw Kol but didn't recognize him due to his new body. Later, Kol attacked Finn, blaming him for bringing the werewolves to the bar. Esther stepped in, telling him that the werewolves showed up under her orders. Kol furiously showed her that he could have died, saying he hadn't gotten a scar in a thousand years and if this was the new life she had planned for him, he wanted out. Esther used her magic to make Kol's head hurt and nose bleed, forcing him to his knees and threatening him, saying that he should be grateful and submissive to her.

She then asked him how all of those werewolves had been killed, questioning him on what weapon Davina had used to save herself. Kol, despite knowing full well that Mikael had returned, refused to tell her what he had seen. He said that he had been knocked unconscious during the struggle, keeping his father's return a secret from his mother.

In Every Mother's Son, Kol was said to be tracking Davina, forcing him to miss the family dinner that Esther had planned for Klaus and Elijah. During that dinner, there was an empty seat at the table, causing Klaus and Elijah to question who it was for. Finn teased that it was meant for their youngest brother. Klaus brushed him off, not accepting that Kol would follow their mother's plan as Finn had done but Finn used Kol as an example of how strong of an argument Esther had, saying that she had convinced even the wildest sibling to join her cause.

Kol tends to Davina's wound

In Live and Let Die, Kol helped his mother with a tracking spell to find Davina, who had eluded him. Their attempts were unsuccessful due to Davina somehow blocking her from being found. Later, Davina called Kol, still not knowing his true identity, asking him to come to her and telling him that she'd text him her location. Kol went to the cabin and helped treat her sprained ankle. He began to ask about what she was planning with her spells but rather than force it out of her, he told her she could tell him what she was up to whenever she was ready. While Davina was sleeping, Kol snuck into the room Davina kept the white oak stake in and found it but was confronted by Mikael. Mikael grabbed him and threatened to kill him before Kol told him that he was a witch and he could turn off the magic of Davina's bracelet if he didn't harm him. Mikael let him go, agreeing to the deal.

When Davina received a text from Cami, warning that Klaus knew where she was, she had Kol come with her to perform a spell to protect them from Klaus. Klaus threw Mikael's staff through the window, knocking out Davina while Mikael ordered Kol to release him from the bracelet spell. Kol complied, letting Mikael off the leash Davina had put him on.

Kol drops his "Kaleb" facade for Klaus

In Red Door, Kol treated the unconscious Davina while Klaus waited at the door of the cabin. Kol was quick to cheekily insult his brother, having the advantage of Klaus not realizing who he was. However, his way with words gave away his true identity, with Klaus discovering that it was his brother. He didn't blame Kol for finding his way back to the land of the living but told him that he was making all of the wrong friends. Kol just happily continued to tease Klaus, angering his brother before Klaus realized that Cami had vanished, abducted by Mikael who had recovered from his previous fight. Klaus tried to get Kol to wake Davina up to bring Mikael back but Kol refused, amused by Klaus' concern for Cami. Klaus told him that they weren't done before leaving. Kol then tried to wake Davina up but she remained unconscious. Kol received a call from Finn and told his brother that Davina was trying to unlink her friends from Klaus' bloodline so he could die without them dying. Finn wondered what she was using as a binding agent and Kol assured him that he was trying to find out. When Kol discovered she was using a root as a binding agent, she woke up and Kol explained that Mikael and the white oak stake were gone.

When Davina tried to call Mikael back, it didn't work, not knowing that Kol had severed her leash on Mikael while she was unconscious. Davina said that she had to finish the unlinking spell before Mikael killed Klaus. Kol convinced Davina that he could help her with the spell after showing that he was pretty talented with phrasing incantations. When Davina decided to directly channel his magic, she touched him and got a glimpse at his recent memories, including how he freed Mikael from Davina, ruined the root, and that he was a brother of Klaus. She violently attacked him, calling him a lair now that she knew he was one of the Originals. Kol fought back with his own magic but Davina was too strong. He got her to calm down long enough to explain that he was a Mikaelson but had just as much reason to hate all of his family as she did. He also told her that his options were either to kill her spell or kill her and he spared her because he had grown to like her. He then told her he could teach her how to unbind dark objects like had done with her bracelet.

KolvinaAlliance

Kol forms an alliance with Davina

While walking in the woods, Davina explained that she wanted to drain the power of the white oak stake. Kol explained that for an object like that, she'd only be able to disable it temporarily and even then, it was an insane idea. Kol and Davina tracked Mikael down, and he told her that they'd need to use the spell together, that she'd need to trust him and channel his power. They performed the spell, blocking the stake's power while Klaus was stabbed. Mikael, furious by the weapon's malfunction, found them and attacked them, throwing Kol aside. After a combined effort from Klaus' allies caused Mikael to retreat, Marcel chastised Davina for bringing back Mikael but Kol told them they were all on the same side, not revealing his true identity to Marcel. Davina then showed Kol that she was now in possession of the white oak stake and proposed that he help her bring down Klaus.

Kol is summoned by Esther

In Chasing the Devil's Tail, Kol and Davina holed out in a motel where she asked him to stop calling her "darling" and trying to charm her, to get focused on business. He assured her that if she trusted him, he'd be able to show her how to take down Klaus without killing her friends in the process. Suddenly, Kol was struck by his mother's magic, an invisible force carving his name into his arm, signaling him to return to her. While driving, Kol explained to Davina that he had loved being a witch growing up, being the only sibling who really tapped into his magic. He loved the power it had given him but when his mother had turned him into a vampire, it took his magic away. He needed to find other ways to get his thrills, turning to violence and mayhem as a vampire. He also spent a lot of time with witches, wanting to feel connected to the magic he no longer had. When asked if that's why he'd been brought back as a witch, Kol explained that his mother put him in a handsome body that would make it easier to follow Davina, saying that he flirted with her by his own choice.

Kol returned to Esther where she questioned him on not returning after she asked him to find the stake days ago. Esther had learned from Klaus that Kol knew of Mikael's resurrection so when she brought it up, she quickly chastised Kol for keeping it a secret from her. She then told him to get the white oak stake, even if it meant killing Davina.

Kol reveals his plan to dagger Klaus

Later, Kol called Davina to tomb in the cemetery where he said he had kept his "playhouse" at the turn of the century. He told her that one of the witches he had worked with was her ancestor Mary-Alice Claire and that only a Claire could open up the tomb. When Davina did, he brought her in to show her the countless dark objects he had had the witches create using a different kind of magic. The dark objects had allowed him as a vampire to use objects imbued with magic without having to actually use magic. He had used the objects in his war with Klaus in the early 1900s, many of them being scattered across the city. However, one of the ones that remained was one of the daggers. He told her that he wanted to use it on Klaus as he had used on him and that daggering him would put down Klaus without killing her friends in the process. Davina tried to tell him that the daggers didn't work on Klaus but Kol already knew it, explaining that she'd use her magic to make it work on Klaus.

Kol continued to explain that the hunters who had first used the daggers on the Originals, had not known about Klaus being unaffected by the daggers. Kol had tried many times to alter the curse on the blades but was unsuccessful. However, the magic he could teach her would allow them to alter the blade itself, changing its very elements. He displayed this by having her channel him and changing her bracelet, as a present for breaking the one she had been using on Mikael. He told her that, together, they were going to change everything. Davina then told Kol about her time being alone in the attic and Kol told her that a witch needs a coven, even if it's only a coven of two. When Davina asked when they were going to start work on the dagger, he said soon, they just needed some more practice first. He then told her that he thought that she'll grow to like him. Later, when putting Davina to bed, Kol eyed the white oak stake, unaware that Marcel was watching. Marcel captured Kol, bringing him to the compound where his brother Finn had also been taken captive. Klaus and Elijah approached their brothers and Kol commented on how it was an interesting way to start a family reunion.

In The Brothers That Care Forgot, Elijah and Klaus tried to convince the imprisoned Kol and Finn to join them against Esther. When Rebekah believed Esther was after her, Elijah had to leave the interrogation of his brothers, forcing Klaus to bring Marcel in for assistance. Marcel took pleasure in torturing Kol, saying that out of the whole family, he liked him the least. Marcel questioned him on what his real plans were with Davina but when Kol kept quiet, trying to entice Marcel to join him, Marcel stabbed him in the hand. When threatened of being murdered, Kol revealed to Marcel that he believed his family wouldn't care if he was dead. Klaus showed up, calming Marcel from his torture of Kol. Kol believed it was a bit harsh and Marcel revealed to Davina that Kol had agreed to join Klaus' side. Davina was shocked by the news and Kol tried to get her to understand that Esther was the bigger threat. Cami showed up at the compound, explaining that she had puncture wounds up and down her spine, and had deduced from her uncle's notes that it was some sort of ancient magic. Knowing it was Esther, Kol examined the punctures and surmised that Esther was preparing Cami's body to be jumped into, believing that his mother desired to take possession of her body. After Finn revealed that Cami was to be Rebekah's new body, Kol told Cami that it wouldn't be long before Esther set the plan in motion. In a moment of solemn understanding, Klaus told Kol that despite what he may have thought, he really did mourn him and attempt to avenge him after his death. In The Map of Moments, Kol and Davina were practicing a spell when Marcel entered, antagonizing Kol who insulted him right back. Davina asked what was wrong between the two of them. Kol explained that he had always felt left out by his siblings but they always seemed to have enough room for Marcel. Kol then explained that if they were going to be able to go through with their plan to dagger Klaus, they'd need the larger paragon diamond that Klaus had taken from him when he first attempted the plan a century earlier. Kol prepared a new body for Rebekah to possibly have to use, one of Marcel's vampire potentials. When he tried to change the deal to include being given the white oak stake to give to Esther to regain her trust, Marcel called off the deal but was interrupted by Klaus who reminded Kol to do for the good of the family, rather than himself, for the first time in his life. Kol agreed, saying he swore by the fate of them all. Later, Kol gave Esther the stake when Rebekah arrived, happy to see Kol and recognizing his smirk. She pretended to want Esther to put her into a new body while Kol planned to help alter the spell once it began. However, Esther revealed that she was going to use the white oak stake to destroy Rebekah's body, thereby wiping out her whole line of vampires, something Kol was not aware of. However, the plan they created still work, with Klaus attacking Esther as the spell happened. The plan seemed to work, with Cami not being possessed.

Davina revealed that she now had possession of the paragon diamond, so they could continue their work on the dagger. Kol then kissed Davina and later returned the white oak stake to Klaus, not revealing what he had done to Rebekah or his plans for daggering Klaus.

Kol and Davina prepare to bring down the barrier

In Gonna Set Your Flag On Fire, Kol, happy about his successful revenge on Rebekah, set up his new room in the compound when Klaus walked in with a bottle of Kol's favorite liquor as a peace offering. Suddenly, the bottle was shattered as Finn walked in, demanding the location of their mother. After Finn cast a boundary spell that trapped vampires and werewolves in the compound, Klaus told Kol to fix it since he was a witch. When Kol questioned him, Klaus explained that since he was no longer a vampire, Kol might look very appetizing to everyone trapped with them. Kol said he'd need help if he was going to fix it. Kol called Davina who came up to the barrier of the compound, not able to enter. Through the barrier, they tried to use their magic to bring down the spell but were unable to due to Finn's spell being channeled by something very powerful. Kol explained that he and Davina could cast a spell that disenchanted all objects within the compound temporarily, including the compound itself but it would also affect the vampires' daylight rings. Despite the risks, they went through with starting the spell. Kol and Davina managed to raise the magical barrier that Finn had placed long enough for the werewolves to escape.

Furious, Klaus chastised his little brother for falling back on his trivial jealousies even when Klaus was welcoming him back into the family. Suddenly, he was knocked unconscious, hit by a spell created by Finn. Kol's mind was plunged into an astral plane of Finn's creation, a place where witches liked to mentally torment enemies. Klaus and Elijah had also been brought there and Kol explained to them the significance of the animal heads that represented each of them, a fox representing Kol. Finn arrived, telling them he was untouchable there and that they'd be there for a while. Finn explained his plan to let the trapped vampires out during the middle of a parade and Kol demanded to be released since his fight wasn't with Finn. Kol wasn't surprised when his siblings weren't jumping to his aid and bickered with Klaus over his treatment, telling him that he shouldn't be hated. While Kol tried to find Finn, he had trouble. When Klaus suggested they use the spell Finn had used to trap Kol in his own body on Finn, Kol told him that he didn't know the spell. Klaus decided, against Kol's wishes, to go into Kol's mind to find the answer. He forced himself into Kol's mind only to see that Kol had been conspiring with Davina to dagger him. Furious with his brother's continued treachery, Klaus attacked Kol who realized what Klaus must have seen. Klaus accused Kol of being just as bad as Finn due to his conspiring. Kol again vented his frustration with the family, saying that he went to them because they were his siblings but as usual, he was the odd man out. He attacked Klaus and Rebekah with his magic, angrily leaving the compound and returning to his playhouse. Klaus told him to shut up and overpowered him, telling him that he needed to stop feeling sorry for himself and that he was his brother. Kol chastised Klaus for his constant daggering but Klaus mournfully told him that he daggered all of them for one reason or another for their own good, not just Kol. The two shared a tense moment of understanding when Klaus told Kol that he was his blood, no matter what. Kol stopped resisting and told him that Finn wanted him to get Klaus' blood in exchange for healing him. However, Kol explained that he knew enough about spells to know that he had been hexed and that there was no reversing the curse that was killing him. He promised Klaus that he would help him bring down Finn and said that Klaus should trust him for once.

Kol brought Klaus and Rebekah to where Finn had been performing his spells and a ritual had been taking place. Kol recognized a tile that Finn had been using as being a symbol that meant "baby" and judging from his siblings' reactions, realized that Klaus' child, Hope, was alive. Kol told them, that to be able to go against Finn's spell, they'd need a lot of power. Kol planned to overload Finn's power by sabotaging his binding circle with too much power for Finn to channel. Klaus brought him all of the dark objects he had his witches create a hundred years ago as well as the white oak stake. While also channeling Rebekah, Kol tried to overpower Finn but was still unsuccessful. Klaus offered himself, knowing that as an Original hybrid, he was a strong power source. Klaus told him that if he wanted his trust, this was his chance and then allowed himself to be used as a sacrifice for Kol to channel, just as Finn was channeling their parents. The plan worked, much to Klaus and Rebekah's relief. However, Kol's condition seemed to be worsening and Rebekah told him she would find a way to save him. Kol was thanked by his siblings for his help.

In I Love You, Goodbye, Kol arrived in Davina's attic, prompting Josh to leave. Davina was initially annoyed by Kol not having kept in touch with her, to which Kol joked that her frustration was a sign that they were going steady. Later, Kol and Davina continued to tirelessly work on their creation of the golden dagger and were successful, overjoyed by their accomplishment. However, Kol's condition due to the curse only worsened but remained firm in keeping it a secret from Davina. Kol called Rebekah for assistance in trying to find a way to keep himself from dying. Despite their efforts, they continued to be unable to break through Finn's curse. Kol opened up to Rebekah about how horrible it was to die the first time that he did. While Davina cried, the two danced in the cemetery outside of his playhouse. When Kol began choking again, he requested that he be able to spend the worst part of it alone so she didn't have to watch him die. However, Klaus, Elijah, and Rebekah arrived to stand by him in his final moments. Kol continued to worsen, choking on his own blood but still managed his sly smile. Rebekah told him that they'd consecrate him in New Orleans so his soul would be with the ancestors, potentially being able to be resurrected. She swore that before she got back to her original body, she'd use her witch powers to bring him home. Kol told his siblings that all he ever wanted was for them to care about him and was happy to see that they did. Still smiling, Kol passed away surrounded by Davina and the family he'd always wanted.

In They All Asked For You, Kol was mentioned a number of times by his siblings. When Rebekah was attacked by a group of witches that mistook her for her host body, Eva Sinclair, she later revealed to Marcel that she was searching the market in their territory for objects that would allow her to boost her power so that she would be able to bring Kol back from the dead, and that she couldn't leave this body until that had been done. When confronting Finn in the cemetery later that day, Niklaus mentioned their brother that Finn has cursed to die along with his crusade against Hope, examples of Finn's treacherous actions.

In Exquisite Corpse, Kol was once again mentioned by Rebekah. After regaining control of Eva Sinclair's body, Klaus tried to convince her to retake her original form. Rebekah rejected this, saying that while she was still linked to the children from Eva's spell and it would result in their deaths, she was still going to hold true to her vow to return Kol back to life.

In Night Has A Thousand Eyes, Davina is seen mourning Kol at a grave bearing Kaleb's name, in the crypts of the cemetery. Klaus approaches her to ask for a favor in regards to Mikael and Davina tells him that she is too busy mourning another dead boyfriend to help. Hearing this, Klaus reminds her that she is not the only one to be grieving Kol before making her an offer. He explains that he is in possession of the ashes of Kol's original body from the first time he died and that if she helps him with Mikael, he will give her the ashes as they are a necessary part of the spell to bring him back to life. Davina agrees to this and helps him locate Mikael, as well as create a weapon to kill Dahlia, in exchange for his remains.

In When the Levee Breaks, Kol is mentioned by Davina when Aiden and Josh approach her to create an object that will prevent Hope from using magic so that Hayley and Jackson can run from Dahlia with her. Davina grows sad and says to them that if Kol had asked her to run away with him before he was hexed by Finn, he wouldn't have had to ask her twice. Marcel later approaches Davina to convince her to help them dagger Klaus, where she tells Marcel that while he helped save her from Eva, he wasn't there for her when Kol died, and that's when she needed him the most, even if he didn't care for their relationship. She is reluctant to hand over the dagger as Kol gave it to her for protection after he was gone, but despite this, she hands over their dagger at the end of the episode, allowing Elijah to dagger Klaus, meaning that after centuries of trying, Kol actually succeeded in creating what could put Klaus down even if he was unable to see it happen.

In Ashes to Ashes, Davina prepared to use her newfound power as Regent to bring back Kol from the dead, using his ashes. Vincent warned Davina that she may want to reconsider using her one pass to revive someone on Kol, saying that he was a Mikaelson and no matter their differences, the Mikaelsons would always help each other in the end. Davina ignored Vincent's warnings and still wanted to go through with it, voicing her anxiousness at seeing him in his true body. However, Davina's plan was hijacked by the remaining Originals, who knew that only Esther could defeat Dahlia so, behind Davina's back, they switched Kol's ashes with Esther's. Davina was furious with the deception, crying that it was Kol's only chance to come back and telling them that now she knew why he had hated his family. Rebekah promised Davina that they'd find another way but Davina didn't believe them. Later, Rebekah revealed that she was leaving New Orleans, back in her witch body, in order to try and find another way to bring Kol back.

The spell to revive Kol

In Beautiful Mistake, Freya got into contact through magic with Rebekah who was in Morocco, having gotten into touch with a witch who might have known how to bring back Kol. Freya and Rebekah rejoiced at the potential of his return, reuniting the family. After Rebekah was ambushed by The Strix and her witch body was killed, returning her to her original form, Elijah told her to come back home for safety. She remained adamant to not leave when she was so close to the answers of Kol's resurrection, reminding Freya of her promise to Kol. They went to the witch's shop where Rebekah found a scroll that said they'd need Kol's ashes and the blood of two siblings to bring him back. The witch that she planned to meet appeared and turned out to be working with The Strix. Rebekah was daggered with a weapon that neutralized her, having been the only one with the spell to bring Kol back.
TO311 1295

Kol reunites with Davina

In Wild at Heart, after Davina had been offered the spell to revive Kol by The Strix, she decided to try and contact Kol's spirit in order to verify if the spell was real. With the help of Josh, Davina went into the ancestral realm where the spirits of the New Orleans witches reigned. Having been consecrated as a New Orleans witch when he died, Kol's spirit dwelled there as well. Wandering aimlessly at first, Davina was suddenly pulled into an alley when she came face to face with Kol. Initially not recognizing his true appearance, having only known him in the body of Kaleb, Davina was shocked to see him. Kol was ecstatic to see her but warned her about the ancestors, who would not be happy that she had come. With the ancestors nearby, Kol took her hand and they fled from the alley.

TO311 1736

Kol's suffering in the ancestral plane

Bringing her to an isolated bar, Kol immediately kissed her but found that she withdrew from him. He initially assumed that she preferred how he had looked before but she assured him that that wasn't it, telling him she was just adjusting to how different he was. Kol tried to remind her of their previous relationship by dancing with her as he had right before he died. The dance worked and Davina told him she liked his true face just fine. However, she noticed that he had a bruise under his eye and wondered what was happening to him during his time with the ancestors. Kol told her not to worry about it; just that it was a dark place. Davina showed him the spell that could bring him back to life but Kol brushed it off after examining it, claiming it was a fake. Davina asked him why he was lying and reminded him that he could live again; with Kol lamenting that living again was what he wanted most. However, Kol didn't want to be revived by that spell, as he knew how dangerous it was and that it was one from The Strix. He told her to find another way as nothing was worth what The Strix would make her do in return.

TO311 2592

Kol confronts the Ancestors

Before they could continue the conversation, the ancestors had tracked them down. They tried to get Davina back to her body but were confronted by the spirit of Kara Nguyen, who Davina had ordered to be killed during her time as Regent. Kol tried to protect Davina but was tossed aside by Kara's magic. They were saved by Ariane, one of the Strix's witches who could perform the spell for Kol. Ariane could help Davina cross back to the land of the living but Kol would have to be left behind. Kol accepted it and stayed behind to hold off the ancestors while Davina escaped.

In Dead Angels, Ariane reveals that Kol is being tormented by the Ancestors to Davina.

TO313 1572

Kol is summoned to help Davina and Aya

In Heart Shaped Box, Davina realized she needed Kol to help her figure out the final ingredient for the spell that would de-link the sire lines from the Originals. Using a candle that would allow her to speak to Kol as long as it was lit, Davina summoned Kol's spirit and he was happy to see her but disappointed to see she had joined the Sisters. She assured him it was a means to an end but their reunion was interrupted by Aya. Kol was familiar with Aya, surprised that she hadn't been killed yet. Aya told him he would remain a ghost unless he helped them with the final ingredient to the de-linking spell. Kol said he'd talk, but only to Davina.

TO313 2806

Kol and Davina before the candle goes out

As Davina tried to figure out the missing ingredient, Kol tried to lie and tell her that it was impossible but she could tell he wasn't being honest. He tried to convince her to stop trying, understanding she was attempting to bring him back but promising her it wasn't worth it with the price she'd have to pay. Through deduction, Davina realized it was the heart of an unsired vampire that was needed. Kol pleaded for her to stop but Davina and the eavesdropping Sisters realized it was Hayley's heart that they needed. While the Sisters attacked Hayley, Kol told Davina to use the candle and Kol's spirit to knock herself out and her connection with the Sisters would bring them down too. Davina took his advice and was knocked out. Kol crouched beside her, lamenting that it was definitely their worst date ever. When Davina awoke, Kol sat beside her and said watching her sleep was the best experience he had had in months. He told her he appreciated her efforts to bring him back but that Aya never kept her promises. When Davina confessed her love for Kol, she kissed him just as the candle went out and he vanished.

TO314 3332

Kol is resurrected

In A Streetcar Named Desire, after Davina Claire successfully unlinked Klaus from his sireline, the spell and amount of magic drained from Klaus created a Nexus Vorti. Davina, having saved the blood of both Elijah and Klaus from the de-linking spell, used the blood of the two brothers, along with Kol's ashes, as the ingredients for the spell to bring Kol back. This was the same spell Rebekah wanted to use before Aya had her witch destroy it to spite Rebekah. Once combined, Davina channeled the new Nexus Vorti energies for the power to cast the spell, and successfully resurrected Kol Mikaelson as an Original Vampire. Kol smiles at Davina and tells her he always had faith in her.

TO315 0432

Kol promises to behave himself

In An Old Friend Calls, Kol awoke after being asleep for three days following his revival, saying that his body being reconstructed from ash had taken a lot out of him. Davina was overjoyed to see him standing but he revealed by putting his hand in sunlight that he had returned as an Original Vampire, his original body brought back to the state it was prior to his first death. Davina was concerned, having only ever really known Kol as a witch. Kol knew that Davina had heard the stories about how he was a violent lunatic as a vampire but assured her that he'd be able to control himself now that he had a reason to be better. He asked her to make him a new daylight ring so they could pay his family a visit, despite her concern that Klaus would kill her for breaking his sireline.

TO315 1044

Kol reunites with his family

When they arrived at the compound, Klaus immediately attacked Davina but was thrown off by Kol, who greeted his brother with a cheeky smile. Klaus was shocked by his brother's return and Elijah and Freya soon joined him, all in disbelief. Davina explained that she had revived him thanks to the power left over from Klaus' sireline breaking. Klaus embraced his younger brother happily, while Kol and Elijah awkwardly greeted each other. Kol also met Freya, having heard the story of his long-lost sister. Kol was updated on Klaus' worry that his sireline would come for him now that the line was broken, however, Davina wasn't allowed in the family discussion, much to Kol's annoyance. However, he promised he would make it up to her later. Kol rejoined his family and was offered a glass of fresh blood by Klaus but he grudgingly accepted, trying to stick with blood bags and avoid fresh blood so he could control himself better for Davina. Using his extensive knowledge of magic, Kol provided Freya with a spell that could be used to find Cortez for Klaus, as well as showing that his other sired vampires were far from New Orleans. However, when Cortez sent a message to the other sired vampires that there was more white oak, Kol and Freya watched as their spell revealed that they were moving toward New Orleans. While drinking blood again, Kol spent a quiet moment with Freya, reminding her that they had met a century beforehand when he was unaware of her identity. Freya assured him that Rebekah tried her hardest to revive him and Freya was glad to see he was trying to be a better person for Davina.

TO315 3350

Kol discovers a revived Finn after giving in to his bloodlust

Kol later went to Davina to have their date that he had promised her. After telling her that it wasn't his time as a witch with magic that had changed him, it was meeting Davina. The two of them shared a romantic night, having sex for the first time. However, Kol woke up in the middle of the night, hoping to feed on a blood bag he brought but found he had already emptied it. Kol, desperate and falling victim to his own insatiable bloodlust, left and fed on an innocent woman. He was interrupted though, by the sudden appearance of Finn, who had seemingly returned from the dead. Finn commented that there was never hope for Kol since he had no self-control. Kol stood in shock, with his mouth still covered in blood.

TO316 0696

Kol furious about Finn's return

In Alone with Everybody, Kol told Elijah about his discovery that Finn was back. While Kol wanted revenge for Finn murdering him, Freya stressed that it was an opportunity to repair what was broken in the family. Kol was unconvinced, trying to explain to her how Finn had tried to kill them all in the past and had succeeded in killing him. When Finn entered, he and Kol threw taunts at one another until Lucien had to briefly restrain Kol from attacking Finn. Elijah suggested that they find a way to get along, as they would be stuck in the compound together until the last of the white oak was found.

TO316 1809

Kol almost feeds on Davina

When Kol tried to vent his frustrations about Finn to Davina, she tried to distract him but he almost fed on her, unable to control his blood lust. After overhearing Fin wanting to be allowed to be put into a witch body and leave, Kol drank a glass of blood in solitude when Elijah entered, stressing the importance of not going after Finn. Kol refused angrily, furious that Finn could even potentially get a happy ending. and Elijah realized that Kol wasn't able to control himself. Kol admitted that since he had returned, the rage and blood lust had been difficult to keep under control, as he had never really cared about trying to the first time he was a vampire. Now that he had Davina, he needed to learn how to control it. Kol tearfully mused that perhaps that's what their family would always be doing; hurting those they loved.

TO316 2430

Kol is held back from torturing Finn

When Davina tried to get retribution for Kol herself, she used a spell to lock Finn inside of his body as a vampire, so he'd be unable to jump into another one as he planned to. Finn fought back against Davina before Kol intervened. The two engaged in a furious fistfight that culminated with Kol throwing Finn through a glass door and preparing to set him on fire. Elijah and Freya arrived and convinced Kol not to do it. Kol grudgingly agreed but told them he'd rather take his chances outside with the risk of being killed with the white oak than have to stay with them. Kol left angrily with Davina behind him.

TO317 1134

Kol demands the return of his dark objects

In Behind the Black Horizon, Kol and Davina discovered that Freya had been abducted by Lucien, who had been secretly plotting against the family for 900 years. After bringing the information to Elijah and Finn, Kol was furious to find them wanting to go after her themselves, seeing it as them trying to clean up the mess they made after not destroying the white oak bullet as they should have. Davina convinced Kol to stay behind with her and to help track down Freya, using the blood connection between Vincent and Finn. Kol knew that they'd need one of his dark objects to help so they went to Cami, whose family had collected all of them over the decades. Kol demanded she give back what her family stole, but she refused. Kol grew vicious at her defiance but Davina, growing agitated by his increasingly hostile behavior, got him to leave. Davina believed he was just struggling to adjust to his vampire body but Cami seemed to think it was a similar behavior to when her uncle was cursed.

TO317 2320

Kol's anger grows worse

After successfully tracking using the dark object to find Freya, Kol and Davina learned about Lucien upgrading himself into something even more powerful than them. In his anger, Kol shattered a nearby mirror. Davina spoke up that she was concerned about his behavior and that he wasn't acting like himself. Kol retaliated by asking her which self he should be acting like, recounting his various states of being over the years; a witch, a vampire, a ghost, a spirit possessing a witch body, and now a vampire again. He spat that she may think he was cursed, but maybe it was just everyone else getting involved in his business. He then angrily ran away, leaving her to examine the blood he left on the mirror.

TO317 2963

Kol says a final farewell to Finn

When Finn lay in agonizing pain from Lucien's bite, Kol relished his brother's suffering, believing it to be any other werewolf bite where he would eventually work it out of his system. He even joked that maybe Lucien's bite was twice as lethal and could even kill Finn if they were lucky, prompting Freya to slap him. Kol nearly lashed out at her in anger but was stopped by Elijah. When Klaus' blood failed to heal Finn and his condition only grew worse, his body dying, Kol stopped teasing and reminded them that Davina had locked Finn inside of his body, not allowing them to save him by putting his spirit into another one. He could do nothing but stand by and watch as his eldest brother died for a final time, with no Other Side or way to put his spirit into the Ancestral Plane to bring him back. After Finn died, the siblings said their goodbyes to him, dropping his ashes off of a bridge. Kol gave a conflicted farewell, saying how he loathed Finn for centuries and still did, but understood the torment and hoped his brother found some peace in the abyss.

TO318 0792

Kol discusses The Ancestors with Davina and Vincent

In The Devil Comes Here and Sighs, Kol went to the jazz club with Davina, the only place in the city where magic couldn't be used, blocking The Ancestors' influence on him. Kol immediately felt the hunger dissipate and Davina took him to speak with Vincent. Vincent asked Kol questions about his time as a spirit in the ancestral plane, trying to determine if Kol had heard anything useful about The Ancestors' plans. The Ancestors appointed a new Regent, realizing Vincent was turning on them and with Van as the new Regent, they began to chip away at the spell of the jazz club, their power reaching Kol again. Kol began to feel the hunger and when he did, his neck was snapped by Marcel.

TO318 3046

Kol nearly desiccates when trying to leave

Marcel took him to an isolated area, telling him that the safest thing to do for Davina's sake was to leave the city. Kol's rage took hold of him and he grabbed Marcel by the throat in a blind fury. When Marcel finally got through to Kol, Kol agreed that it was the safest solution. He drove out of New Orleans, still feeling the hunger but it vanished the moment he crossed the city line, out of The Ancestors' reach. Kol happily rejoiced at being free but suddenly his body began to desiccate. Kol, in extreme pain, as his body turned on him, was forced to run back into New Orleans. The moment he came back, the desiccation stopped and the hunger returned, trapped and unable to flee thanks to The Ancestors.

TO319 2003

Kol convinces Davina to dagger him

In No More Heartbreaks, Kol went back to the jazz club as it remained the only place The Ancestors couldn't influence him. Davina found him, furious that he had left. He told her he had no intention of coming back but The Ancestors refused to let him leave the city. After Cami was bitten by Lucien, Davina wanted to confront him but Kol warned her against it, as Lucien was far too dangerous. When Davina refused to listen and went to talk to Lucien, Lucien assured her that he wouldn't kill her as she wasn't his to kill, telling her to talk to Kol about it. When she went back to Kol, he revealed that The Ancestors had made it so he wanted nothing more than to kill her. In order to protect her until he could be right in the head, Kol revealed a dagger he had gotten after his revival, to ensure Klaus wouldn't dagger him. Musing how much he hated being daggered but how much he loved Davina, he gave her the dagger and guided her hand until the dagger impaled him. He desiccated and fell to the ground, neutralized.

TO319 3041

Kol realizes he killed Davina

Later, after Cami died from Lucien's bite, Davina sat near Kol's daggered body, wanting to be able to talk to him. The entire city began to quake as The Ancestors' influence broke through even the jazz club's defenses, Davina looked around in concern while the dagger in Kol's body began to remove itself, rising from his chest. When Davina turned back to Kol, he had vanished. Calling out to him, Kol appeared behind her, no longer daggered and rabid with murderous hunger. He attacked her, biting her in the neck and feeding on her excessively. When Kol pulled himself away, he snapped out of his blind hunger and realized what he had done. He tried to feed Davina blood but she was too far gone. Kol held her tight, tearfully telling her to wake up but she wouldn't. The Ancestors plan had worked: Kol had killed Davina.

TO320 0013

Kol is found mourning Davina

In Where Nothing Stays Buried, in St. James' Infirmary, a distraught Kol remained with Davina when Marcel arrived, demanding to know what Kol was still doing in New Orleans. Kol tearfully explained that the Ancestors forced his actions and he had even tried to be daggered to protect Davina but it didn't work, swearing that he loved Davina and never wanted to hurt her. Marcel, enraged, attacked Kol and declared that they were going to bring her back. Vincent arrived shortly after and wearily told the pair that they needed to consecrate Davina's body they could attempt to resurrect her from the Ancestral Plane. Kol refused initially, knowing that the Ancestors hated Davina and would attempt to destroy her, but backed down when Vincent told him that they would find a safe place for her. When it was suggested they need a powerful witch like Freya to help, Kol was uncertain about asking his family for help since Klaus hated Davina but Marcel was determined and demanded they prepare her body.

TO320 0947

Kol reunites with Davina's spirit

When Kol and Marcel arrived at the Mikaelson Compound, they found some reluctance initially but their protests convinced Klaus to offer their help. Klaus led Kol away from the courtyard to get him cleaned up, knowing the recent pain of his own love's death and not wanting Kol to have to experience that pain. Freya prepared a protection circle to draw Davina's spirit into, to keep her safe from the Ancestors while they tried to resurrect her. Learning that an Original is needed in order to sustain the spell, Kol volunteered immediately, wanting to make sure Davina would be safe but his offer was rejected, as he had already been marred by the Ancestors' magic. Kol pleaded to Freya to make sure the spell worked, to which she tried to assure him that it would. Vincent consecrated Davina's body while Freya summoned her spirit to the protection circle, just in time to save her from the Ancestors' wrath. Davina and Kol tried to touch but were prevented from the magical barrier between them. Davina explained what happened in the ancestral plane and Kol gravely reiterated his knowledge about the "La Gemme Vital", a curse that the Ancestors attempted to shred Davina's soul with before she was summoned. Kol left the compound, leaving Davina behind with the promise that he'd get her back.

TO320 1923

Kol enraged by Davina's failed revival

Kol helped Vincent in snatching Van, whose magic as the Regent would be needed to revive Davina. They went back to the compound only to find Marcel just waking from unconsciousness and the protective circle empty. Marcel explained that Freya and Elijah jumped him and broke Davina's protection. Kol, in utter disbelief, questioned why his siblings would do that and then focused on getting Davina back now that they had the power to do so. However, after several attempts to revive her, Van gravely told them that the Ancestors must have gotten to her first and that her soul isn't there to revive. A devastated Kol begged Davina's lifeless body to wake up before scornfully demanding that Van try again.

TO320 2612

Kol kills Van

When Van refused, citing that it was impossible, Kol dubbed him expendable and prepared to kill him but was convinced to spare him by Vincent, as it wasn't something Davina would have wanted. Despite that, not long after, a grieving Kol appeared to Van in the cemetery, needing to put the blame on someone for the failure. He numbly explained that Davina was the one thing keeping him from being his previous chaotic self. Kol then proceeded to attack Van and drained him dry, killing the Regent without a second thought. In a futile act of vengeance on the Ancestors, Kol knocked over an altar in a blind rage.

TO321 0501

Kol confronts Freya

In Give 'Em Hell Kid, Kol attended a small service in the cemetery for Davina along with Marcel, Josh, and Vincent but couldn't bring himself to say any words for her, too distraught by her loss. He stood silently by as Marcel declared that Kol's siblings needed to answer for the part they played in Davina's loss and he would make them answer. Kol confronted Freya about how she used the Ancestors to kill Lucien even though they had to sacrifice Davina's spirit to do it. Freya tried to convince him that it was the only way to stop Lucien and the prophecy of their downfall, which she still wasn't certain was really over. Kol brushed her off, angrily telling her that he hoped the prophecy was right and that they all rotted in hell for betraying his trust again. He began to storm off when Davina asked where he was going. He told her he was leaving since there was nothing left for him in New Orleans. When Freya tried to convince him that family was enough reason to stay, Kol spitefully told her that she may have looked for her family for centuries but he never wanted her. He then left her to go prepare for his departure.

TO321 1208

Kol is haunted by Davina

While packing, Kol was startled by a sudden appearance of Davina and a vision that he is stabbed in the neck and screaming apologies to her. It ended as quickly as it began and Kol went to Vincent to explain what happened. They discussed Vincent's plan to destroy the ancestral plane, cutting off the Ancestors' influence in the living world. After Kol explained that Davina was trying to contact him and that parts of her soul must still remain, Vincent agreed to let Kol help defeat the Ancestors. They went to the cemetery where Vincent used his magic to send himself and Kol to the ancestral plane, preparing the magical bomb to destroy the ancestral well.

TO321 2662

Kol and Davina share a final goodbye

They conjured Davina's spirit to appear and she sent Vincent back to the living world to be alone with Kol, knowing that the bomb going off would destroy her along with the Ancestors. Once alone, Kol and Davina tearfully said their goodbyes. Kol told her about the first time he saw her and how she had changed him before they declared their love for each other one last time. After a final kiss, Kol woke up in the living world before fleeing from the cemetery as Davina destroyed the ancestral plane. Kol turned back, telling her to give them hell.

TOS3E22-KolBitten

Kol is bitten by Marcel

In The Bloody Crown, Freya shared her worries with Kol that despite Lucien and the Ancestors' defeat, something still wasn't quite right. They looked over the enchanted world map that displayed Klaus' former sireline to find that many of them were fast approaching New Orleans now that they were no longer linked to Klaus. Kol believed Freya's paranoia was warranted and gathered weapons, including Papa Tunde's blade, explaining to Klaus and Elijah that he could use a good fight. Elijah reminded him that no vampires could enter their home as long as the deed was still in Freya's name but Kol thought it was cowardly to hide in their home while their enemies gathered at the gate. Almost immediately after, there was a disturbance and the three brothers headed toward the source. Downstairs, they found vampires pouring in from all sides, surrounding them. Marcel revealed himself, saying he never thought it would come to this but the Mikaelsons forced his hand. Having turned himself into the Beast the prophecy spoke up with Lucien's serum, Marcel threatened the brothers but Kol was just amused, asking him if he was going to put on a show. When Marcel persisted with the threats, Kol told him that he understood his pain at Davina's loss but it would break her heart to see what he was doing. Kol went so far as to call Marcel's actions an insult to Davina's memory which enraged Marcel enough to attack him. Kol tried to beat him with Papa Tunde's blade but was overpowered by Marcel's new power. Marcel bit Kol in the neck with his poisonous bite, broke his neck, and then threw him across the room, defeated.

Kol, Elijah and Freya 322

Kol with his family in the Chambre de Chasse

Rebekah intervened but not before Elijah had also been bitten by Marcel. The two wounded brothers are taken to Lucien's penthouse by Klaus. Already suffering from the effects of the bite and in a pained panic, Kol admitted he believed they were going to die, remembering what the same type of bite had done to Finn and since nothing could cure them. Klaus assured his dying little brother that he wouldn't let that happen. Kol asked to at least be put to sleep so he wouldn't have to feel the agonizing pain. Freya, suffering from a different poison, tended to Kol with a cloth while he started suffering delirious and guilty hallucinations about Davina. In his crazed state, Kol started to strangle Hayley before being restrained by Elijah. Using Klaus as an anchor, Freya put all of them - herself, Kol, Elijah and Rebekah into a deep sleep that would allow time for Hayley to find cures for each of their ailments. Freya put their consciousnesses in a Chambre de Chasse, making their minds rest in a beautiful house in the country. Once there, Kol looked around with relief, knowing that beggars couldn't be choosers.

In Gather Up the Killers, after spending five years asleep while Hayley searched for a cure, Kol was awakened along with his siblings after Freya used venom from all seven werewolf packs to make a cure for Marcel's bite. Upon being awakened, Kol and Rebekah immediately went to feed.

TO402-005-Kol

Kol feeds after being awakened

In No Quarter, Kol joined his family in regaining their strength by feeding on a group of prisoners and their corrections officers. His last victim was a particularly loud screamer that Kol fed on until Elijah asked him to hurry up, which Kol obliged. When they discussed rescuing Klaus from Marcel's captivity, Kol was hesitant, having already died twice and not in any mood to give Marcel another chance at a third. He suggested that they draw Marcel out of town and then rescue Klaus but Elijah was adamant on freeing their half-brother as soon as possible, even if it meant burning all of New Orleans to the ground. Somewhat reluctantly, Kol followed his siblings' lead in going back to New Orleans.

TO402-061-Josh-Kol

Kol and Josh discuss Davina

Later, once they had returned to the city and learned Klaus was in a section of the tunnels beneath the compound, they used Josh to let them into Rousseau's where there was an entrance to the sewage tunnels that lead underneath their old home. Not wanting Josh to warn Marcel, Kol contemplated killing Josh to be certain but instead stayed behind while his siblings went into the tunnels and Rebekah was distracting Marcel in the cemetery. As such, he could keep an eye on Josh while also protecting them from being flanked in the tunnels. Once alone, Kol looked at a picture of Davina in the bar and expressed anxiousness to leave the city forever, not wanting to stay after Davina's death. Josh, having been Davina's best friend, tried to comfort him by telling him about his late lover, Aiden. Kol listened while Josh told him that it would eventually get easier, much to Kol's annoyance. When Josh received a coded text from Marcel, Kol grew suspicious and angry, threatening Josh that he would slaughter and burn everyone he knew if anything happened to his family. After learning that Marcel knew the Mikaelsons were all there, Kol snapped Josh' neck and commented that he only spared him from death because Davina liked him.

TO402-082~Sofya-Kol~Rebekah

Kol saves Rebekah from Sofya

Knowing Marcel was aware of their plans, Kol rushed to Rebekah, who had been incapacitated by wooden crossbow bolts in the cemetery. Once there, Kol found Sofya standing guard with another of Marcel's vampires. After tearing out her accomplice's heart, Kol scared Sofya away after threatening that she would end up just the man whose heart he had just extracted. and pulled the crossbow bolts out of Rebekah. When Sofya's reinforcements arrived, Kol began fighting them, easily overpowering the younger vampires. Rebekah joined in and the two dispatched them quickly. After savagely beating a vampire in front of Davina's grave, clearly distressed by where they were, Kol again asked to finally leave New Orleans.

TO402-110-Kol-Klaus-Hayley-Elijah-Rebekah~Freya~Marcel

Kol tells Marcel to get over not being a Mikaelson

Kol and Rebekah waited outside of the tunnels for their siblings to return, with Kol being anxious that Marcel was ripping their family apart. Rebekah thanked Kol for coming to rescue her as Klaus, Hayley, Freya, and the freed Klaus appeared. Marcel arrived and threatened the entire family. Kol, frustrated by Marcel's persistence, told him to get over not being a Mikaelson since he never was one. After a discussion with Klaus, Marcel decided to spare the Mikaelsons on the condition that they never return to New Orleans. When they went back to Hayley's house, Kol looked at photos of Davina on Josh's phone before snapping the phone.

TO403-005~Freya-Rebekah-Kol-Elijah

Kol and his siblings see Hope

In Haunter of Ruins, Kol tried to convince his family to get as far away from New Orleans as possible, not liking that they were staying at Hayley's house. Despite his suggestions and Freya's support, Klaus made it clear that he wanted to have a day to spend with Hope in peace without running. Kol was visibly irritated by the decision but backed down as Hayley brought out Hope and Kol met his niece, now seven years old, for the first time. Later, Rebekah found Kol feeding on a compelled servant at the house wanting to be alone. He expressed annoyance about being trapped again in a house together with his siblings just as he had been for five years in the Chambre de Chasse, not wanting to be stuck with his siblings all the time since all it did was bring about paranoia and violence between them. Kol told his sister that he was tired of being stuck in the same cycle with his family while someone like Davina would have done something with her life if she had been alive.

TO403-Kol-Rebekah-Leave

Kol leaves with Rebekah

Having given his reasons to Rebekah for not being content staying with his siblings, Kol left but told Rebekah to say goodbye for him. When Klaus learned of Kol's departure, he affectionately referred to him as a selfish git but Rebekah explained that Kol had died twice and then spent five years in a dream world, though Klaus wondered what Kol was chasing after now since he had a history of splitting off from his siblings. When Kol found a car on the side of the road, he discovered Rebekah had killed the driver and decided to leave with him, up for an adventure. She told him that someone had to keep him out of trouble before they drove off together, both expressing interest in spending time away in Saint-Tropez.

In Voodoo in My Blood, the spirit of Davina inside the Ancestral Plane asked how Kol was, as she was unable to see him since he was no longer in New Orleans. Klaus responded that Kol was spending time in the French Rivera, but joked that he would return once Klaus told him how lovely Davina was even in death.

Kol learns of Elijah's death

In Phantomesque, Kol and Rebekah partied in the French Rivera with a number of other vampires, feeding openly on humans at the club they were attending. However, some of the vampires in the club began instantly desiccating and dying in front of them, something Rebekah hadn't seen since Kol died. They realized that it meant an Original had died and deduced that it could only be Elijah. They traveled back to New Orleans to find Klaus mourning for Elijah, who had been used as a sacrifice to bring back The Hollow. Kol wanted to dispense with any idle chat and slaughter those who had killed his brother.

TO410-052-Klaus-Kol

Kol confronts Klaus

Kol went with Klaus and Rebekah to find the rest of the Hollow's followers and the rosebush weapons that had been made from Marcel's blood, which were lethal to Originals. They tracked down a group of the Hollow's witches and killed most of them, though Kol interrogated one, reminding the witch that he was the worst of the Mikaelsons. The witch mentioned the Ancestors' return, which shocked Kol. Realizing Klaus had kept a chance to see Davina again away from him, an enraged Kol throttled his brother before storming away.

TO410-087-Kol~Jessica~Amy

Kol bargains with the Harvest Girls

Kol gathered some of his dark objects and brought them to the Harvest Girls, hoping to exchange the dark objects if they would allow him to speak with Davina. Despite his offer, the Harvest Girls refused his request and told him that they didn't like doing favors for vampires, especially Mikaelsons. Kol reminded them that he had a good history with witches, even being the one to teach them to create dark objects in the first place. When they continued to refuse and went so far as to say that he would never see Davina again, Kol grew angry and threatened them. However, they used their magic to incapacitate him, snapping his neck, and left him on the ground of the cemetery while they took the dark objects for themselves.

TO410-134-Kol~The Hollow

Kol is given an ultimatum by the Hollow

Later that night, while he was still at the cemetery paying his respects at Davina's grave, he received a call from Rebekah telling him that they had successfully contained Elijah's spirit in Freya's pendant. When Rebekah told him that she planned on staying in New Orleans to see the battle against the Hollow through, she asked if he would do the same. Kol refused before hanging up but was suddenly met by the Hollow herself, in her true form. The Hollow offered to bring Davina back to life if he would serve her but Kol refused. The Hollow revealed Davina, much to Kol's surprise, contained within a magical circle. The Hollow showed Kol that she had linked herself to Davina, meaning if the Hollow died then so would the young witch. Kol could only helplessly listen as the Hollow told him that he would have to serve her if he truly cared about Davina.

TO411-024-Kol~Rebekah

Kol protects the totem

In A Spirit Here That Won't Be Broken, Kol met up with Davina in the church attic, ecstatic that she was alive again but she reminded him that it was only so long as the Hollow was. Despite his feelings for her, Davina urged him to not worry about her and destroy the Hollow but Kol responded that losing her broke him and he wasn't going to let it happen again. When Davina reminded him that it meant betraying his family, he wasn't deterred, saying that betraying his family was his specialty. He went downstairs where he was met by the Hollow. Kol was annoyed that she couldn't let him have more time with Davina before he had to do her dirty work, but she ignored him and explained that now that she was mortal, her only protection from his family was a totem that she drew power from. She instructed him to guard her totem until she was done with his family since protecting her life also meant protecting Davina's.

TO411-030-Kol~Rebekah~Marcel

Kol traps Marcel and Rebekah

When Rebekah called Kol to track down whoever was guarding the Hollow's totem, he played along and told her he would help her exterminate the Hollow's servant, keeping possession of the totem himself. Rebekah and Marcel arrived at an abandoned house where the totem was supposed to be to find Kol. He told them it wasn't there and that he already checked the house. When they questioned him and wanted to continue searching the house, they were suddenly trapped by a dark object on the ceiling. Realizing Kol had betrayed them, Rebekah asked her brother why he was helping the Hollow but he only told her he was truly sorry before fleeing, leaving Marcel and Rebekah trapped.

TO411-055-Kol~Hope

Kol convinces Hope to perform a spell for him

Kol took the totem to Davina, who suggested he destroy it. Kol refused unless they could figure out another way to ensure Davina's survival and safety. They remembered a spell that could be used to break links, and Kol realized they just needed one powerful witch to cast it. He prepared to leave, telling Davina to take his car and leave if he wasn't back by midnight. She protested, but he made her promise she would before he left. The witch he had in mind to break the link was Hope so he spoke to Hope at the compound, while Klaus and Hayley were busy hunting down the Hollow and the totem. He told Hope that when he was her age, he liked to perform magic when he was bored. When she told him that she wasn't supposed to perform magic with strangers, he assured it was okay since he was family. She asked why he left then, and he explained that he had been sad and didn't want to make everyone around him sad too. He gave her a rope to perform the spell to unlink Davina from the Hollow. Hope was happy to try to help when she realized he was doing it for love.

TO411-108~Klaus-Dagger-Kol

Kol holds back the dagger

When Kol heard Klaus coming in, he told Hope to focus on the spell while he'd be right back. He met Klaus downstairs and told him that he had his reasons for helping the Hollow but Klaus refused to hear them, too angered by his brother's betrayal. The two fought and Kol told him that the Hollow brought Davina back and was linked to her, asking for time to save Davina before they killed the Hollow and that they owed Davina that much. During the fight, the Hollow's totem fell out of Kol's jacket and could only helplessly watch as Klaus destroyed it in front of him. Klaus revealed one of the white oak daggers, much to Kol's terror. However, despite his fear, Kol accepted that he would be punished but only asked to have a little more time, just to know if Davina was still alive. After revoking Kol's place in the family, Klaus brought the dagger down on his brother but Kol managed to hold back the dagger with his bare hands. He begged Klaus not to do it yet, telling him he'd gone one thousand years without knowing love or peace and he finally found it with Davina. He then asked Klaus if he would have done it differently than he had if it was Camille. While Hope successfully unlinked Davina from the Hollow and Hayley killed the Hollow's body, Klaus decided to spare Kol from being neutralized again.

TO411-129-Kol~Davina

Kol and Davina leave New Orleans

Kol reunited with Davina at his car, where she was waiting with Josh. She was relieved to see that he wasn't dead or daggered and he told her luckily Klaus was feeling merciful. He and Davina tried to decide where they would go now to try and find some sort of normal life. When Davina suggested anywhere, Kol replied that they would go everywhere. Kol thanked Josh before getting into the car and together, he and Davina drove off to parts unknown, leaving the chaos of New Orleans behind.

TO413-126-Kol

Kol plans to propose to Davina

In The Feast of All Sinners, Kol arrived in New Orleans once again after seeing numerous messages from his family. To save Hope from the dark magic consuming her, Kol and his siblings each took a part of the Hollow into themselves, knowing that they would have to keep the power far away and separate to opposite ends of the world. Once the ritual was complete, and Kol now had a portion of The Hollow in him, Kol was the first to hastily leave when the proximity to one another started to strengthen The Hollow's power. Afterward, Kol was in San Francisco, California asking a jeweler to make his paragon diamond into a necklace, earrings, and a massive engagement ring. He received a text from Davina and told her he was on his way with gifts, planning to propose to her.

TO501-061-Kol

Kol speaks with Hope

In Where You Left Your Heart, Kol and Hope spoke to each other on the phone, and she confided some of the struggles she was having to him. When he learned she was grounded, he scoffed at the idea, saying that no one could ground a witch. To comfort his niece, he told her not to worry too much since the best people were black sheep, referring to himself. Hope asked if Kol had been in contact with her father but Kol told her thankfully he and Klaus hadn't seen each other since it would only strengthen their contained portions of the Hollow if they had. He reassured her that some crisis would come to New Orleans and bring Klaus and the family back together at some point.

TO508-011-Kol

Kol is pulled into the Chambre de Chasse

In The Kindness of Strangers, Kol was pulled into a Chambre de Chasse while he was naked, and waiting for Davina to come home, and was reunited with his siblings inside of the astral recreation of the Mikaelson compound. Annoyed at once again being forced out of contentment and into their family drama, Kol questioned if Klaus had pissed off any witches lately. Freya determined that Vincent Griffith must be responsible, and would most likely be shipping the Mikaelsons' bodies to the far corners of the world while their minds remained in the astral world.

TO508-031-Kol-Elijah

Kol tries to remind Elijah of his past

A door appeared, and Kol determined that it was representational magic that could only be unlocked by keys that were connected to each of them. Kol decided to look for his with the amnesiac Elijah, to keep him separated from Klaus. As they searched, Kol showed Elijah a trunk Elijah kept of his personal possessions, hoping it could help Elijah remember his lost memories. Elijah questioned why Kol had never visited him at his bar in France, while Klaus and Rebekah had. Kol told him that they had never had much in common besides their looks, and then went on to inform him that Elijah's role in Davina's death may have played a part. Elijah asked if he had ever apologized for that and Kol said that he had, in his own way, and all that mattered now was that Davina was back.

TO508-097-Kol~Rebekah

Kol's piece of the Hollow is removed

After finding his key, Kol realized that there was a room in the Chambre De Chasse that hadn't existed in the real world for a century, so Hope couldn't know about it and have recreated it, meaning she wasn't working alone. Kol confronted Freya, reminding her that he had shown her that room at the Christmas party in 1914. Freya revealed she helped Hope distract the siblings so Hope could remove the Hollow's dark magic from them, and finally allow the family to be reunited. Hope's plan worked, as the Mikaelson siblings felt the dark magic being drawn from them, causing them an incredible amount of pain, but successfully removing the remnants of the Hollow from them, and transferring it to Hope.

TO508-128-Kol

Kol watches Elijah regain his memories

When they all found their keys and opened the door to escape, they found themselves in Elijah's psyche, a hallway of doors, and each had a door to leave. Kol was quick to open his door and get back to reality and his wife. He emerged in the physical world inside the church, his siblings' unconscious bodies surrounding him. When his siblings all came through their own doors, Elijah had regained his memories and Kol watched somberly, barely holding back tears, as his brother took in all of the pain and anguish that plagued him, including the recent death of Hayley Marshall-Kenner.

TO511-073-Kol-Davina-Esther's Grimoires

Kol and Davina try to help Hope

In Til the Day I Die, Kol answered a knock on his door to find Klaus. Surprised by his brother's visit, Klaus revealed that he was actually looking for Davina, who he believed could help Hope, whose condition had grown worse since transferring the Hollow's dark magic to herself. Davina tried to help their niece, by concocting a spell that Kol didn't recognize, despite his vast magical knowledge. She explained it was a transcription spell, along with Esther's grimoire to hopefully find an antidote for Hope. Kol, impressed as ever by her, asked her to remind him never to piss her off. However, the spell failed, destroying their plan to help Hope.

TO511-121-Keelin-Kol-Freya-Hope

Kol conducts the wedding ceremony

As Freya and Keelin's wedding approached, Kol agreed to conduct the ceremony. He explained that he had been ordained by a monk in the 13th century as well as on the internet hours before the wedding just to be safe. He spoke during the ceremony about how happy he was for his sister, and how Mikaelson events sometimes meant dinner and sometimes meant daggers, and he was happy this would be a more peaceful occasion. He proclaimed Freya and Keelin as married and celebrated with his family afterward, dancing with Davina.

TO513-065~Rebekah-Kol

Kol and Rebekah argue

In When The Saints Go Marching In, Kol came to his family's aid after Klaus transferred the dark magic killing Hope into himself. However, Kol was annoyed by Klaus' unilateral decision, seeing it as just more of Klaus' melodrama. Rebekah argued that their brother's death was not melodrama but Kol was unconvinced, reminding them of how many times Klaus had avoided his end. Kol joked that Klaus was a cockroach that would outlive them all, even though they were immortal. Kol, not thinking Klaus would care if he was there to see his death, left to go back home. As he drove away from New Orleans, he was stopped by Rebekah standing in the middle of the road. They got into an argument, with Rebekah claiming Kol was running like a rodent when his family needed him. Kol countered that she was unable to accept happiness and moving on, too caught up in the toxicity of their family. He reminded her that Klaus had daggered them countless times and maybe they should be celebrating if he was really going to be gone. Despite Rebekah's protests, Kol told her that he never bought into "always and forever" and she furiously stormed away, ashamed of how her brother was acting.

TO513-112~Klaus-Kol-Elijah

Kol hugs Klaus

However, as Klaus prepared to end his life with a white oak stake to destroy the dark magic inside him, the Mikaelsons planned a final meal together to celebrate Klaus' life. Kol had a change of heart and returned for Klaus' last supper, much to his siblings' surprise. Kol said he didn't want to dishonor Klaus' sacrifice, despite Klaus always having been an ass. Klaus appeared behind him and embraced him, telling Kol that he always secretly adored his youngest brother. Kol enjoyed the dinner with his family and then Klaus told them all how honored he was to have had them all, despite how he had tormented them in the past. Klaus left to die on his own terms, and once he was gone, Elijah told Kol and the others that he planned to die alongside Klaus, having fulfilled his life's ambition of Klaus' redemption. Kol hugged Elijah, stunned and saddened to be losing both of his older brothers. Elijah told Kol that if he didn't keep an eye on Hope, he would come back to haunt him.

Season Four[]

In Everything That Can Be Lost May Also Be Found, Kol arrives just in time for their memorial dinner for Klaus. Hope quips that he's late and she's tired of not being surprised. Regardless, he's happy to come to see his favorite niece because they need her help. Kol explains that they're trying to decide where to spread her father's ashes and they're bickering about what to do. The only solution they could agree upon was to leave it up to her. Hope accepts and immediately suggests tossing them in the garbage can, though Marcel deducts ten points. She doesn't care about his game and questions why this decision is up to her. Freya tells her that Kol speaks the truth. They don't know what to do without her. Likewise, Kol tells her that Klaus would have wanted it this way. Hope doesn't but Rebekah questions why she remains. Hope believes it's because Vincent's holding her hostage with the astral projection spell. However, Marcel explains that he's only anchoring the spell to New Orleans and she could have left anytime she wanted. Hope doesn't understand why she can't leave, but Freya tells her that it's because she doesn't really want to, at least not all of her. Rebekah advises that perhaps if she answered their question earnestly, then she'll be able to leave. Sitting down at the table, she takes a moment and gives her answer. Although it's a bit selfish, she knows that her father saw the entire world and New Orleans was his home. Before that was Mystic Falls and he built a school for her. If it was up to her, she'd want him with her so that she could find the perfect spot. That way, he could always be near. In the trees or on the breeze. Looking around to one another, Kol declares this is how it will be. Kol mentions that Davina was gutted when she couldn't come and suggests they could pay a visit, while Freya tells her that it will give them all an excuse to visit her more. They tell her they love her, always and forever. Hope questions if it worked because she's still here. They watch and share looks as she appears to interact with her humanity.

Personality[]

Next to nothing is known of Kol's personality when he was a human for the first time, before Esther turned her children into vampires. However, it was shown that he was close to his family, and this is reaffirmed by Kol's sadness at the disintegrating relationships between his siblings over a thousand years later. Kol loved being a witch, being something of a prodigy with magic, and out of his siblings was one of the only ones to actually tap into his power aside from his oldest sister Freya. He specifically loved the power that magic gave him and hated having to lose it when he was turned into a vampire. According to Rebekah, even as a child, Kol would not continue to lie once he has been caught on the act.

KolEmbrace

Kol relishes and embraces his vampirism

However, as an Original vampire, Kol is menacing, unpredictable, dangerous, wicked, cheeky, somewhat unreasonable and cocky to a fault. He can quickly go from being a respectful gentleman to direct and aggressive. When Kol is presented to Carol Lockwood, he greets her with dignity and charm, but when Damon Salvatore is introduced to Kol, he speaks to him very condescendingly. Kol patronizes his siblings often, challenging them with snark and contempt, especially Rebekah and Klaus, demonstrating his clear irreverence. He enjoys breaking the rules, and is naturally very defiant; Finn even aptly describes him as being the wildest one in the family. Kol is also not short on ego, a fact Klaus has remarked on and considers himself to be "handsome". Additionally, Kol comes across as a playboy and hedonist, seemingly taking great pleasure in his vampire nature. One of Kol's defining characteristics is his vindictiveness. Much like Klaus, Kol does not hesitate to get retribution on those who have caused him harm; plotting for decades against both Klaus and Rebekah for sleights that caused him pain. Kol does not forgive easily, though may pretend to further his goals of vengeance.

As an Original vampire, Kol finds child-like enjoyment in his acts of violence, sometimes comparing them to games like hide-and-seek and believing that there is always time for games when he is told to take a situation seriously. A sadistic facet to Kol's character has also been shown such as when he compelled an acting troupe to murder each other while performing Hamlet just for his own entertainment. This example also illustrates his dark sense of humor, resulting in Elijah to opine that his brother has a "vile imagination". Later, in 1914, Kol callously slaughtered half a church parish, including a young altar boy, just to kill one woman whose house he needed to be able to enter. Kol had no regrets about the massacre, happily going to a family dinner soon after.

However, part of Kol missed being a witch. He missed the power that magic had given him and to make up for it, he turned to violence and mayhem, embracing his vampire nature. It was later revealed that Kol hated being a vampire due to the blood lust and heightened emotions, and preferred being a witch because he finally got to be himself.

Despite his flaws, he is shown to truly care for his family. However, due to not being included in the "always and forever" vow made by Klaus, Rebekah, and Elijah, Kol has always felt excluded and isolated from his siblings. His extremely violent and aggressive antics are a result of wanting attention from them. Once Marcel joined the family, Kol's jealousy and bitterness grew worse since Marcel seemed to take his spot in the family. When threatened by Rebekah, he was even shown to be ashamed of what his family had become, and was saddened that Elijah was so disgusted by their fighting. He also was upset by how quickly Rebekah seemed to move on from his death when he returned from the Other Side. He has also stated his appreciation of witches, holding them in high esteem. He seems closest to Rebekah and Klaus, though he has stated he views some of Klaus' actions as "horrors". He along with the rest of his siblings (excluding Finn) seemed to look up to Elijah, seeing him as the noble one. However, Kol's violent, reckless, and impulsive nature often clashed with his family, despite really caring for them beneath his vain personality.

Like Klaus, Kol has a sense of honor as he will not go back on his word, however, like his half-brother, he will always look for loopholes in the deals he makes. Despite being intelligent and calculating, he is known to draw unwanted attention to himself.

Kol's vampire face

Kol's vampire features.

Kol is shown to be genuinely intimidated and fearful of Silas. This stems from stories he used to be told when he was young about Silas and believes fully that Silas can't be stopped if he's unleashed. He would do anything to ensure that Silas would not come back, including disobeying Klaus' order to leave Jeremy Gilbert alone and even threatening his sister with the White Oak Stake. This seemingly irrational behavior over a legend made his siblings think his fear of Silas had driven him to paranoia and insanity. During a conversation with Elena, Kol further elaborated on his feelings about Silas. He said that he had faith in the immortal's existence unlike the rest of the world, which had lost faith in such things, now not knowing who they should fear.

Kolmikaelson5x18

Kol, as a ghost on The Other Side

As a ghost, essentially nothing has changed in his personality. His idea on the Other Side has changed dramatically, as after having been there for a long time, living in "hell", as he calls it, Kol becomes eager to drop the veil and to bring back himself, and consequently all other dead supernatural beings, back to life. He also explained his joy of being able to connect with someone again, since, on the Other Side, it was complete isolation. In that isolation, though, he had thought of countless ways to make Elena suffer for her part in his death, apparently having manifested as a ghost towards her so he could recount his various ways for revenge. Although he hated the Other Side, he seemed to value his survival because he feared to disappear into the darkness as Vicki Donovan had. Luckily, his spirit was brought back by Esther before the collapse of the Other Side, and placed into the body of a witch.

AP2

Kol's spirit with Davina in the Ancestral Plane

Kol returned to being a ghost after the death of his spirit's vessel, Kaleb Westphall, and his personality was slightly changed from his experience as a witch again, most notably that he had since grown feelings for Davina Claire. Due to Kol being in the body of a consecrated witch when he died, his spirit was able to stay in the Ancestral Plane of New Orleans witches. On The Ancestral Plane, unlike his mother who was revered by the Ancestors, he wasn't, which lead to him being tormented by them as he had no power to literally protect himself. He was noticeably selfless with his interactions with Davina who saw him twice as a corporeal spirit not wanting her to be under The Strix influence and offering himself up as bait so she would have time to escape The Ancestors. His concern for Davina was such that he didn't want to be resurrected if the means to do it hurt her in any way. Eventually, Davina managed to revive him back into his original body as a vampire.

Normal TheOriginals205-0400

Kol's mischievous nature remains in his new body

Kol became a witch when he was brought back from the other side to possess Kaleb. His personality seems to be quite similar to how he acted previously, though less directly hostile, a combination of being not as invincible and powerful, as well as no longer having that part of him heightened by vampirism. He remains cheeky and even a little bit self-absorbed - as when he mocked Davina's music taste before crediting himself with being able to help her improve it. He also showed previously known traits when he says that he loves his new body, demonstrating his vanity while sucking up to his mother at the same time. However, Kol quickly showed disdain for no longer being indestructible, hating that he could get hurt and that his wounds wouldn't heal quickly, saying that it had been a thousand years since he had received a scar. He also continued to demonstrate a love for culture that was only previously hinted at, hanging out at the record store and once again mentioning his love for modern music. Kol's previous interest in magic was even more prominent, now that he could practice it personally again as a witch. Due to being more vulnerable and in a weaker witch body, Kol had to rely on cunning deception to win his battles.

TO315 3347

Kol struggles to control his returned bloodlust

Having been revived in his original body by Davina, Kol was once again an Original vampire, though he had changed as a person from the experience of his two deaths and his time possessing a witch. No longer wanting to relish in his violent nature as a vampire, Kol recognized how he had been perceived the first time he was a vampire and wished to change that, wanting to better himself from the chaotic and violent Original Vampire to someone Davina could still love. Kol believed that he would be able to better control himself from his bloodlust due to now having Davina this time; taking measures to improve himself by no longer feeding on fresh blood. Despite his hopes and attempts, Kol's bloodlust remained powerful and intoxicating and Kol soon fell back into feeding on humans, though this time, seemed visibly guilty for his actions.

With the return of his brother and murderer, Finn, Kol's rage became almost impossible to control. Elijah and Davina both came to realize that Kol was physically incapable of controlling himself. Kol could easily snap into fits of anger that frightened even himself. It was soon after revealed that magic was causing his heightened aggression, caused by The Ancestors, who sabotaged his revival as a way to get back at Davina, which they eventually succeeded in. The magical influence the Ancestors had over Kol ended when he was made to kill Davina, his unnaturally heightened aggression turning to remorse for the actions he was forced to commit against his lover.

After Davina's death and the role he was forced to play in it, Kol fell back to some of his more hostile tendencies. He murdered Van despite being told that Davina wouldn't have wanted him to. Pained by the memories of the time he had spent with Davina, he grew a severe disdain for New Orleans, only returning to save Klaus but anxious to leave the entire time. Kol had no qualms of draining and killing numerous humans to bring himself to full strength. When fighting a vampire in front of Davina's grave, an enraged Kol brutally punched the vampire repeatedly even after he was unconscious, only stopping after Rebekah convinced him to.

Following the resurrection of Davina and unlinking her new life to the Hollow, Kol seems to achieve a more calm and content personality. Kol reveals that loving Davina made him a better person as his prior vile nature was a coping mechanism for the loss of his humanity and witch abilities before Davina gave Kol both a sense of love and peace.

Physical Appearance[]

Main article: Kol Mikaelson/Appearance
VD3X14DL6

Kol in Season Three of TVD

Kol is marked by his brown hair and dark brown eyes. Despite being over a 1000-years old, he appears to be in his late teens, somewhere about 17-18. He is approximately 6'1" in height, very handsome and with a lean and athletic build. As shown while preparing for the Ball, Kol is very proud of his appearance, bordering on arrogance.

When he was first undaggered from his coffin, he was dressed in what he was wearing in the early twentieth century; a collared shirt with a vest, and dress pants. Kol shares a similar fashion sense to the rest of his family, dressing in a very high-class manner, but with a casual edge similar to his brother Klaus' attire, that is more prominent in modern times. Kol tends to dress in darker colors, wearing casual-button down shirts, both short and long-sleeved. He also wears henleys and occasionally t-shirts. He also wears stylish jackets most of the time, wearing coats and simple jackets. The colors Kol wears range from gray to navy blue to black to brown. As a ghost, whether it was on The Other Side, within the Expression Triangle, or in the Ancestral Plane, he was stuck wearing the same clothing he had died in.

Kol's hair had also been subject to change, and he has had many styles over the centuries. In 1702, like his brother's, he had long hair but had pulled it back rather than letting it out. His hair was slicked up when he first woke up in the 21st century, but he eventually lessened the gel as he adjusted to modern times, letting his bangs fall over his face. While a ghost, his hair took on a more general style that he seems to favor, like the one in Season 3, with a hint of stubble appearing on his face in Season 5.

After returning from The Other Side, he possesses the body of a witch named Kaleb, taking his physical traits as his own. Even in a new body, Kol retained his fashion sense. Kol comments on loving his new body, his arrogance coming out once again when it becomes clear that he appreciates the physical attractiveness but not so much the vulnerability. Kol stated that his mother picked a body that would allow him to easily follow Davina, believing she would find it attractive.

Powers and Abilities[]

Kol possesses all the standard powers and abilities of an Original Vampire. As an Original Vampire, Kol is stronger and faster than any non-Original vampires, he is one of the most powerful supernatural beings in the TVD/TO universe, with the exception that Klaus is stronger and faster due to his werewolf side. However his powers had never been seen to be used against his family until recently, before then only Elijah had been seen fighting with Klaus almost evenly and Rebekah has been easily subdued and she fears Klaus, Kol doesn't fear Klaus and is not afraid to get in a confrontation with him, as shown many times, it may be possible that he too can fight almost evenly with Klaus as Elijah does, he just hasn't shown it yet. He was also able to kill twelve vampires single-handedly and without getting injured, although the vampires he killed were newborn and didn't know how to use their powers effectively. Like his brothers, he was trained from a young age by his father Mikael who taught him how to fight with swords and bows, and how to protect himself. Although rarely seen, Kol was seen to be able to match the speed and strength of fellow Original Vampire Finn Mikaelson in an almost even fight over Davina Claire, he displayed greater fighting skills than his brother which would be logical considering that Finn spent most of his life "daggered" in a coffin while Kol experienced the world alongside his other siblings. Kol has recently shown that he is capable of fighting almost evenly with Klaus, being able to trade punches, grapple, and counter fairly well, however, unlike his brother Elijah, Kol was unable to reach a stalemate as Klaus showed greater skill as well as strength and ultimately defeated Kol and held him at dagger point.

Since Rebirth, Kol has lost all his Original Vampire powers and abilities, due to taking over the body of Kaleb and taking all of Kaleb's witchcraft powers abilities as his own. Esther intentionally put Kol into a weaker witch's body to keep him under control and not allow him to utilize all of his magical knowledge. It is yet unknown how powerful Kol was as a witch in his own body, but it was said he was considered a "child prodigy".

Kol has been shown to know how to use and control Kaleb's magic, although it is possible that this is influenced by Kol's amassed knowledge of magic. He is first shown to use his powers to prank people in Alive and Kicking, telekinetically making a table of apples fall and using aerokinesis powers to blow a woman's dress up.

Tumblr neibx0XWBA1s389oyo6 500

It is unknown how powerful Kol is as a witch, having only been shown to use magic while possessing Kaleb and only having the extent of Kaleb's abilities at his disposal though he says he was quite gifted with magic in his true body before becoming a vampire. While in Kaleb's body he was able to perform spells but was shown to be far weaker than Finn while he inhabited Vincent Griffith. Kol tended to try and channel power through others such as Davina Claire and the paragon diamond. While channeling the power from the paragon diamond, his power was briefly amplified enough to be able to keep Klaus at bay for a few moments, though causing a great deal of stress to Kaleb's body.

Kol tortures his siblings

Kol is also the mastermind behind the creation of almost all known Dark Objects from the The Originals Universe, such as the Rosary of Madness, the Bracelet of Obedience and the Devil's Star, Mary-Alice Claire being his apprentice along with her close friend Astrid. He has revealed to Davina that he has the ability to create a dark objective dagger that can neutralize Klaus like the silver ones do the other original vampires. Klaus has since enlisted his help to fight in the coming battle against Esther in order to save Rebekah and Camille from the spirit transference spell.

Kol has the typical weaknesses of an Original vampire. For a time, however, he lost all his Original vampire weaknesses, due to him taking over the body of Kaleb and had all the typical weaknesses of a witch. Ultimately, however, he was restored to his original body.

TO-S3-Klaus and Kol

Klaus is Kol's maternal older half-brother. Kol and Klaus both have a short temper. It is known that Klaus daggered Kol over a century ago. Kol and Klaus seem to argue every time they talk to each other, Kol even joked to Klaus about his dagger threats showing he was not over being daggered for a century. Even though he had been daggered for a century, he quickly got with times as he was seeing playing a video game perfectly. Klaus and Kol both like to drink together and have a brotherly bond. Klaus cares deeply for Kol as he was rushing to his body when the Mystic Falls gang daggered Kol. Kol seems to ruin many of Klaus plans like finding the cure for vampirism, by killing Shane and the newly turned vampires. In Every Mother's Son Finn reveals to his brothers that Kol is alive, and Klaus expresses disbelief that Kol would have gone along with Esther, stating that the only thing Kol listens to is his ego, but Finn confirmed Kol's supposed loyalty, saying that their mother's proposition had brought even the wildest of Mikaelsons onto her side. Kol later switches loyalties over to Klaus and Elijah. Klaus and Kol have been seen getting along at time since then and fighting at others. They seem to banter often and in good fun. Klaus was furious with Kol for hiding where he hid Rebekah and threw him to hungry vampires in his anger. But Klaus forgave him when Kol was cursed by Finn. After all, everything Kol has ever wanted was his family to care about him. When Kol died from the curse, Klaus was there on his side, together with Rebekah and Elijah. Before Kol died he wanted Davina to leave him alone, but his three siblings came and Klaus said that Kol can't just flee from "Always and Forever" He died in their arms, as a part of the family. Klaus and Kol were reunited in an An Old Friend Calls, with Klaus giving Kol a hug upon seeing his younger brother after his death a year before. Kol helps Klaus disappear from his sired enemies.

Rebekah Mikaelson[]

"Kol, listen to me. You don't have long. You're going to die. But you will die a witch, and we will consecrate your body. You will join the Ancestors of the French Quarter and those spirits can be brought back. And I promise you, brother, I will not leave this body until I find a way to bring you home."

Kol and Rebekah.

Rebekah is Kol's younger sister, his partner in crime, and the only younger sibling after Henrik's death. They are the younger Mikaelson siblings and love doing evil together. Kol is the only member of the family who has, even though on personal differences, takes the side of Rebekah, as he has protected her from Klaus. Also, Kol dislikes her lovers. The same way seems of all the Mikaelson Siblings Rebekah knows Kol pretty well, she knows about his favorite holidays, and can usually tell when he's lying or telling the truth. When they are together on screen, Kol is her partner in crime and helped her whenever she needed him. Which she seemed to have taken advantage of, as she tends to use him a lot, getting upset if he doesn't do things the way she wants. She has rarely been seen interacting with him unless she got something out of it. He helped her gain information from Shane about the cure until he found out that it involved Silas. Kol refused to have a part in it and wanted everyone to stop looking for the cure. Then Rebekah tried to dagger Kol and threaten him, they both looked terribly upset, but obviously, her attempt angered Kol and he almost killed her, but Klaus saved her. Later on, he is killed by Jeremy and Elena. Rebekah mourns the loss of her brother briefly but still wants to find the cure. When Kol returns from The Other Side, he is not happy to see her as she did not get revenge for his death, which strains their relationship. When Kol possessed the body of Kaleb, and he finally saw Rebekah, they were really happy to see each other, even if it were on different sides. Rebekah said his name and told that she knew that smirk anywhere. Rebekah and Kol seem really close because no matter what they still love each other. Kol truly cares about her and protect her. After Rebekah escaped the Witch Mansion she forgave Kol, but Kol did not feel guilty, because he taught his younger sister a lesson for her betrayal. Rebekah confessed that she likes Kol's soft side and then he promised her that he will get her back to her body even if it's the last thing he would do, and Rebekah said that she is not going to let him die, whatever it takes. She wanted to help him, but there was nothing she could do. She promised Kol that she would not leave the witch body until she brought him back from the New Orleans Ancestors. He died in her arms. Later, when Rebekah became possible to go back to her body, she refused because she has vowed to return Kol to life and she intends to keep the promise to bring back her brother. In spite of everything, as well as her promise, Rebekah returned to her original body and helped Elijah replace Kol's ashes, thus leaving him dead. Rebekah however, said she doesn't want to do this, and she wants to get Kol back to her, and after Freya healed the body of Eva, Rebekah returned to it and went from New Orleans to find a way to bring him back. She eventually found the proper spell, but her siblings told her to return to New Orleans due to danger and said Kol would have to wait. She was the only one who put Kol first and went to find the spell, but was incapacitated by Aya with a cursed stake and wasn't able to resurrect him. When Elijah pulled it out, they realized that she was cursed. To stop her condition from getting worse and fulfill the family part of the prophecy, she asked him to dagger her. Later on, Davina succeeded in bringing back Kol and when he went to his family he asked about her whereabouts, and Freya told him that Rebekah kept her promise and fought for him. They're currently traveling together until they are forced to separate due to housing pieces of the Hollow's soul in their bodies.

Elijah Mikaelson[]

Elijah is Kol's older brother. Elijah and Kol's relationship has not been greatly explored, but Elijah was upset that Kol had been left in a coffin for over a century because of Klaus. He undaggered Kol in Bringing Out The Dead against Klaus' wishes, reuniting all of his siblings. Elijah and Kol did not have much interaction in the present day, but Kol later expressed his sadness that Elijah would not show his face, citing his bickering with Klaus and Rebekah as the reason. It is unknown what Elijah's reaction to Kol's death was when he found out, but he refused to allow Klaus to aid Silas in dropping the veil, even knowing that it would bring back both Kol and Finn. In Season 2 of The Originals, it was revealed that Elijah had helped Klaus dagger Kol all known times; once in Spain in 1702 when Kol drew the attention of Mikael with his antics and refused to flee with his siblings, again in 1821, when Kol grew too wild and threatened both Klaus' relationship with Marcel, and Marcel's human life. And finally in 1914 when Kol tried to build a dagger that would work on Klaus. Elijah became aware that Kol was alive in Every Mother's Son when informed by Finn, but he didn't first really interact with Kol until much later. Despite expressing discontent with some of Kol's actions, and being perfectly willing to torture him at times, Elijah rushed to his side along with Klaus and Rebekah when he found out that their brother was dying. Elijah remained by his side until Kol has succumbed to the hex. Elijah and Kol were reunited more than a year later in An Old Friend Calls. Glad to see each other and making fun together as they work to help their brother.

Kol kisses Davina tenderly.

Davina Claire was Kol's close friend, partner in crime and girlfriend. They first met in Rebirth and the pair grew close. Originally Davina was completely ignorant of Kaleb's real identity, but she eventually discovers the truth in Red Door, and despite being rightfully furious, the pair establish an alliance founded on the mutual goal of Niklaus' destruction. From there, Kol and Davina worked together attempting to fashion a dagger that would work on Klaus and during this time, their relationship, having been fed by Kol's tendency to flirt, their mutual love of magic and palpable chemistry, blossomed. Their relationship strengthened through the season and the pair shared their first kiss in the mid-series finale. While on a quest to rescue Josh and Marcel, Kol was hexed by his brother Finn, and after successfully creating a dagger to work on Klaus, which he gave to Davina for her own protection against Klaus, his condition quickly worsens. Despite Rebekah and Davina's attempts to save Kol, he dies with his family, Elijah, Klaus, Rebekah, and his girlfriend Davina by his side, leaving them all devastated, especially Davina. Since his death, Davina has been working restlessly to try and bring him back to life. In Night Has A Thousand Eyes, she makes a deal with Klaus, exchanging her help with Mikael and Klaus to kill Dahlia for the ashes of Kol's original body, so that she'll be able to use them to bring him back. When his siblings hijack the spell to bring back their mother Esther, as they needed her to kill Dahlia, Kol remained dead. After many failed attempts, Davina was finally able to bring Kol back to life in A Streetcar Named Desire, after the spell Davina used to unlink Klaus from his sireline created a Nexus Vorti, which she could channel for power such as when she resurrected Mikael when Hope's birth created one, and the two of them were thrilled to be reunited. They consummated their relationship in An Old Friend Calls. Davina tragically dies, leaving Kol devastated. However, the Hollow resurrects Davina to try and use her as leverage against Kol. After defeating the Hollow, Davina and Kol move away from New Orleans and Kol intended to propose to her. As of the season five premiere of The Originals, Kol and Davina are spouses.

Name[]

  • Kol is pronounced as "Cole ", old English word meaning "charcoal". It is an old Norse name, meaning 'Dark'. In Ancient Norse: ᚲᛟᛚ ᛗᛁᚲᚨᛖᛚᛋᛟᚾ.
  • Mikaelson is Scandinavian and means "Son of Mikael".

Trivia[]

  • Kol has some similarities to Klaus from the novels:
    • Both have mood changes from cheerful and amused to absolutely enraged in seconds and they are very unpredictable. Despite their seemingly erratic and scattered personalities, they seem to be patient and methodical killers capable of elaborate plans.
    • Both have attacked members of the Bennett and Donovan families: Klaus attacked Vickie Bennett (in the book), Kol attacked Matt Donovan and Bonnie Bennett.
  • Kol has been neutralized six known times, however, he has implied this has happened more, leading him to seek to create a dagger that would work on Klaus, to punish his brother for the times he spent in a coffin:
    1. By The Five in the flashback to 1114, in The Five - To neutralize the Original siblings.
    2. By Klaus in the flashback to 1702 in Alive and Kicking - For drawing Mikael's attention to Spain.
    3. By Klaus in the flashback to 1821 in Alive and Kicking - For threatening Marcellus.
    4. By Klaus in the flashback to Christmas, 1914 in The Map of Moments - For plotting against Klaus.
    5. By Alaric Saltzman, 2010, in All My Children - To neutralize the Original siblings.
    6. By Davina Claire, 2014, in No More Heartbreaks - Willingly, to protect her from himself.
  • Kol had been good friends with witches throughout the centuries, stating how he respects them and holds them in high esteem. This stems from his love of being a witch before becoming a vampire. His interest in witchcraft and magic continued even as an Original and not being able to use it directly anymore. Having studied witchcraft with witches for centuries, Kol is quite knowledgeable in the arts of witchcraft and magic, even creating his own spells such as the spell he taught Freya in An Old Friend Calls. Elijah has also admitted that Kol was a master of his craft, despite his mischievous tendencies. Davina once told him he had a "freaky witch encyclopedia brain" because of his vast knowledge. During the time he spent with witches in Africa in the 14th Century, Kol traveled in Uganda and gained a knowledge of medicinal herbs and remedies from a shaman. Elsewhere, Kol learned of a form of Arabian magic called Kemiya, which he taught to witches so that they could create his dark objects for him, which allowed him to utilize magic as a vampire. He later teaches this to Astrid Malchance and Mary-Alice Claire, as well as her descendant, Davina, and practiced it himself when he possessed Kaleb.
  • According to Rebekah, Kol's favorite part of holidays with his family was writing wishes for each other.
  • In Every Mother's Son, Finn described Kol as the 'wildest' one in the Mikaelson family.
  • Michael Narducci confirmed Kol was afraid of Mikael, this being the reason that he did not reveal himself to his father when Mikael attacked him.[1]
  • Kol is the first vampire to ever be among the Ancestors after he died and was consecrated as a witch while he possessed Kaleb. He was able to channel magic during his brief stay on the mortal plane when Davina contacted his spirit in Heart Shaped Box, showing he can use magic as an Ancestral Spirit. It is likely the Ancestors can control how Kol is affected in the Ancestral Plane, as he was shown to have bruises and could not fight all of the Ancestors when helping Davina. It was hinted that the Ancestors were abusing Kol.
  • In Haunter of Ruins, Klaus told Hope that Kol snores loudly.
  • Kol is an ordained minister. He was first ordained in the 13th century by a Franciscan monk, and most recently in 2026, by the internet, to wed Freya and Keelin in Til the Day I Die.
