| — Klaus to Esther in Do Not Go Gentle
| ||
Niklaus, more commonly known as "Nik" or "Klaus", was an Original/Hybrid, and the son of Unnamed Man and Esther. He has six siblings that consists of five half-brothers and one half-sister. A deceased unnamed older brother, four other half-brothers named Elijah, Finn, Kol, and Henrik. And a younger half-sister named Rebekah. Klaus is also the step-son of Mikael.
He is first mentioned in a conversation between Rose and Stefan warning him about the Originals. Klaus is believed to be the most hated and feared of all the Originals and those who fear him are desperate for his approval. Over the centuries Klaus has become a recluse who confides in and trusts only the members of his inner circle.
For over 1000 years Klaus has been trying to a break a curse that bound him to a moonstone. He created the myth of the sun and moon curse in order to help find the moonstone and the Petrova Doppelgänger that was needed to break the actual curse. His goal was to bring out his werewolf side so he could sire his own super race.
In 1492, he finally got his chance to break his curse when he met Katerina Petrova, the final piece for the ritual. He kept her entertained until the full moon, but was unaware that she found out what he was and what he wanted from her, causing Katherine to escape from him. After Katerina turned into a vampire he assumed that her family line ended with her and that his chance to break his curse was forever gone, Klaus traveled to Bulgaria and slaughtered her entire family in revenge.
For the next 500 years Klaus was searching for a way to break the curse without the doppelgänger and had forced generations of witches and warlocks to help him for centuries. Along his search for a way to break his curse, Klaus has hunted down his family and neutralized them. Also he was searching for Katerina Petrova, who escaped him and stole his moonstone.
He is the main antagonist of Season 2, making his first appearance in Know Thy Enemy, in Alaric's body.
Niklaus is a member of the Mikaelson Family.

Edit
During the 1920s Klaus and his sister Rebekah were on the run from the vampire Mikael, a vampire hunter from his past. The siblings were in Chicago in 1922 where they met the vampire Stefan Salvatore that Rebekah fell in love with. At first Klaus hated Stefan but it changed when Klaus discovers that Stefan was a Ripper and they became good friends. One day they were attacked at a bar by Mikael. Before Klaus and Rebekah left, Klaus compelled Stefan to forget him and Rebekah. Later when he and Rebekah were about to leave Chicago, Rebekah told Klaus that she was tired of running and wanted to be with Stefan. Klaus then forced her to choose between him and Stefan, she chose Stefan. This made so him angry that he neutralized his sister with a White Oak Ash Dagger, he then took her body with him in a car and left Chicago.
Season Two

Added by Aleu el12345Isobel Flemming, a vampire working for Katerina Petrova who now went by the name Katherine Pierce, who also happened to be the mother of the second Petrova doppelgänger, was trying to find Klaus and ultimately succeeded by getting close to a member of his inner circle. Klaus found out what she was up to and compelled her to tell him what she knew. When he learned that she was working for Katherine and that the rumors about a doppelganger in Mystic Falls were true, he decided to use her in a plan to capture Katherine and the Moonstone. Along with Klaus's trusted warlock, Maddox, Isobel made Katherine believe that Klaus was willing to pardon her if she delivered the Moonstone and the doppelganger to him. While Katherine found the Moonstone, Isobel helped Maddox capture her former husband, Alaric Saltzman. Katherine and Isobel then captured Elena at which point Isobel revealed her true colors and Maddox captured Katherine. He then ordered her to let Elena go since Klaus didn't need her yet. Maddox then transferred Klaus's spirit into Alaric's body so that he could spy on Elena and her friends.
In the Last Dance, Klaus interrogated Katherine for information about Elena and her friends and learned that a witch Bonnie Bennett could be a danger to him so he decided to kill her. Still pretending to be Alaric he attacked her at the 60's decade dance by compelling several students. Finally cornering Bonnie, he forced her to use all her power and die. He didn't realize that she had faked her death to protect herself and Elena.
In Klaus, he has Maddox, and his other minions, including Greta, bring his original body to him so that he can return to it. While they are doing so, he sets up a contingency plan by threatening Jenna's life. As Stefan stops him from killing Jenna, Klaus tells him that it would be easy for him to take his revenge if Elena tries to stop him from breaking the curse. At the same time, Elena learns from Elijah the real nature of the curse and why Klaus wanted to break it. He was then released from Alaric's body and returned to his own by Maddox and Greta.

Added by Alaric SaltzmanKlaus goes to the Mystic Grill to remind Damon not to do anything he will regret. Damon asks if he can postpone the ritual, but Klaus says he has everything and the ritual will happen. He warns him not to screw it up if he wants to live. Klaus returns to Alaric's apartment and is immediately suspicious of Katherine. He compels her to tell him what she has been doing but, as she is taking vervain, she is able to lie. He is still suspicious and 'compels' her to take off her bracelet, walk to the window and stand in the sunlight. Katherine has to do it and screams. Eventually Klaus believes she is compelled and says she needs to do something for him. When the full moon begins to emerge Stefan and Elena arrive home but are confronted by Klaus, who tells Stefan that he had him all nervous and thought he had done something stupid. Klaus asks if Elena is ready. Stefan put his arm in front of Elena and says "No". Klaus tells him there is no reason for him to die, and he and Elena leave for the ritual.
Klaus returns to Alaric's apartment and tells Katherine that Elena is with Greta. The door flings open and Damon tells Klaus to postpone the ritual, explaining that he rescued the werewolf and vampire and killed Maddox. Klaus tells him that he knew either Damon or Stefan would try to stop him and reveals that he always has a back-up plan. He shows Damon on a webcam that he has captured Jules. Damon asks if he has a back-up vampire and Klaus says he has got it covered, before darkness falls on Damon. Katherine wakes Damon up and tells him that Klaus has gone to begin the ritual. She admits that she had to do something so Klaus wouldn't realize she was on vervain, and reveals that Klaus made her call Jenna, to lure her out explaining that he needed another vampire because Damon's blood was impure due to his werewolf bite.

Added by Szod14Klaus appears at the quarry and begins the sacrifice by handing the moonstone over to Greta. Klaus walks over to Jules, who then tries to attack him but fails. Klaus rips out her heart then squeezes the blood into the spell. The sacrifice continues and Elena begs Klaus to let Jenna go, explaining that she doesn't have to die. Elena doesn't want to leave Jeremy without a family and points out that she did everything Klaus asked. However, Klaus realizes that Stefan has arrived and goes to speak to him on top of a cliff, who wants to replace Jenna in the sacrifice.
Klaus and Stefan return to the women and Klaus asks Elena who she wants to save and who she wants to die. However, he soon reveals that she doesn't really have a choice and stakes Stefan in the back. He explains that he has other plans for Stefan and needs him alive. Greta removes the fire from Jenna and Elena starts crying, Jenna then rushes over to bite Greta. However, Klaus stabs her, lies her down and stakes Jenna in the heart.

Added by Szod14Klaus appears and tells Elena it's time, offering her his hand. She refuses it and walks past him to the sacrificial altar. Klaus thanks her, but she tells him to go to hell. He bites her neck and feeds from her until she falls onto the ground, lifeless. Klaus announces that he can "feel it happening" and begins to transform. Bonnie appears and throws him across the ground. Greta heads over towards them, but Damon breaks her neck.
Bonnie continues to cast the spell with Klaus yelling to the top of his lungs in pain. As he is about to.die, Elijah approaches him at which point Bonnie stops the spell. Klaus seems terrified as he sees his brother towering over him. Elijah punches through Klaus's rib cage to get to his heart as he asks him to say the names of their family. Klaus then tells him that he didn't bury them at sea and that their bodies were safe and that Elijah would never find them without him. After some consideration, Elijah saves his brother without Stefan or Bonnie being able to stop him.

Added by Szod14A few days later wakes he up in the forest with Elijah over him. Elijah gave him some clothes and asked him where are the bodies of their family. Klaus says that he will take him to them in time. Later they go to Alaric's apartment where they find Katherine and Stefan. Stefan tells Klaus that he needs his help for Damon, and knows Klaus has a cure for Damon's Werewolf bite. Klaus suddenly stakes Elijah with the white oak ash dagger, and then he runs towards Stefan and puts a wooden stake close to his heart. Stefan then tries to make a deal with him. Klaus will give him a cure for a Werewolf bite and he will be at his mercy. He releases

Added by Alaric SaltzmanIn The Hybrid, Klaus and Stefan find Ray's werewolf pack in the woods. Klaus turned them all into Hybrids. When Ray bleeds through his eyes and feels pain, Klaus then discovered that there something wrong with the hybrids. Then Ray soon became rabid and fled the site. Stefan tried to stop him and was bitten. Klaus was only willing to give Stefan the cure to the fatal bite if he retrieved Ray. When the same thing happened with the other hybrids he killed some, and some died on their own When Stefan came back with Ray's dead body Klaus was angry over that he could not make Hybrids. Klaus gave Stefan his blood and left the camp with Stefan leaving the hybrids dead body's on the ground.

Added by Fredrico 2011In Disturbing Behavior, Klaus is still using Gloria to try and find the necklace used in contacting the Original Witch. Klaus later finds out that Stefan was asking about Mikael, the person that he was maybe running from in the 1920s. Klaus seems angered by this and knocks Stefan out then takes him back to Mystic falls to find out why he is still holding on to his former life.
At the beginning of The Reckoning, Klaus corners Elena, asking her why she is still alive. He takes her by the arm and leads her to the gym, chasing away the other students by telling them they're busted for pranking. Elena tells Klaus not to hurt anyone, but he argues that he has to. Rebekah drags Tyler's body into the gym, and they wait till Bonnie arrives, where Klaus tells her she has to find a way that he can successfully create hybrids.

Added by Szod14After Stefan tried to fight the compulsion, Klaus yet again compelled him, this time with a stronger force to turn his humanity off, finally getting Stefan to obey. Presumably, Stefan attacked Elena, but somehow Klaus must have stopped him, as he figured out himself how to create a Hybrid: with the doppelganger blood. He fed Tyler the blood, and Tyler then changed into a Hybrid.

Added by Szod14In the parking lot of the hospital, Damon comes to rescue Elena, but Klaus stops him, saying he could kill him now that his brother doesn't care. Damon tells him that Mikael knows where they are. Klaus replies that he's bluffing, but Damon informs him that they found Mikael's tomb. Klaus threw Damon against a car and vanished without a trace.
Klaus leaves town in search of werewolves he can turn into hybrids. He manages to find several, successfully turning them into hybrids.

Added by HoneiVladmirIn Homecoming, Klaus receives a call from Stefan who tells him that Mikael is dead. Thanks to the fact that Elena really did stab Mikael with a white oak dagger, Stefan is able to override Klaus's compulsion when he is forced to tell the truth. Rebekah, who has learned that Klaus had killed her mother, confirmed what they had said in an attempt to lure him back to Mystic Falls. Klaus says that he will be on his way. Klaus has Tyler throw a party to celebrate Mikael's death. After seeing who he thinks is Elena, he reveals that his hybrids are present, and they have orders to kill Damon if Klaus is killed. The party goes well, until one of his hybrids say that a guest named Mikael is waiting for him. Visibly angered, he goes to meet his step-father. Klaus attempts to have his hybrids attack Mikael, but Mikael reveals that while they are sired to Klaus, they are part vampire and can therefore be compelled by Mikael. Mikael reveals that he had one of the hybrids grab 'Elena' and threatened to kill her if Klaus didn't come outside of the Lockwood house.
Klaus tries to call Mikael's bluff, but Mikael stabs her. To everyone's shock, it wasn't Elena at all, but Katherine, who throws wolfsbane grenades at the hybrids and runs.
Damon then appears and attacks Klaus with the white oak stake. However, Stefan interrupts the battle, pulling Damon off of Klaus.

He leaves, saying to Elena she should find Stefan. He calls Jeremy and tells him to go outside on the street and not to move. He intended to kill Jeremy by a car accident. To save Jeremy's life, Elena made a deal with Klaus. She shows him where Rebekah was and he spares Jeremy's life. He leaves with Rebekah, after Elena told him that she knows he killed Esther. Back home Rebekah slowly recovers but Klaus stabs her again with the White Oak Ash Dagger, killing her.
In Our Town Stefan visits Klaus and tells him to get his hybrids out of the town. When he doesn't agree, Stefan kills Mindy by decapitating her. Klaus is angry and tells Tyler to bite Caroline but he refuse
Added by Killer kevIn The Ties That Bind Klaus is seen in one of Bonnie's dreams as she tried to open the locked coffin. Back in present time Stefan went to Klaus and talks to him. Klaus states that he wants his family back, now that his Hybrids left town. It is revealed that he ordered Daniel Warren to the house of Abby Bennett as he called him later. When Damon went to the Abandoned Cottage, Klaus came and gets tortured by the spirits of the dead witches. As he threatens to kill all witches they stop hurting him. He then commands them to show him the coffins and they do. Just the fourth one is missing. He asked Damon where the last one is and he threatens to rip out his heart but he doesn't get an answer. After all coffins were moved to his house, Klaus had to go to finish some business but is surprised by Elijah, un-daggered earlier by Damon, standing in front of him after he killed a hybrid.
in Bringing Out The Dead, Elijah attacks Klaus for having locked him in the coffin but Klaus overpowers him and, having pulled the dagger out of their brother Kol, threatens to use it on him. Elijah retorts that he would have to deal with Kol then. Klaus resigns himself to that fact and tells Elijah that Mikael was dead. Surprised to hear of his father's death, Elijah asks why their family remains in the coffins. Klaus asks Elijah to help him to get the fourth coffin back from Stefan by reminding him of the oath that they had sworn to one another: 'always and forever'. Elijah then organizes a dinner between Klaus and Stefan with Damon present. The deal offered by the brothers is that, in exchange for the coffin, Klaus will leave Mystic Falls forever, a deal that Elijah deems to be fair. Klaus later counters with his own offer: Elena's future happiness with a human husband (Matt Donovan) in exchange for the coffin; this would keep her safe from what he deemed to be feuding between the Salvatore brothers and would ensure the continuity of the Petrova bloodline so that he could keep creating hybrids. Stefan refuses the deal. Klaus then grabs him and burns his hand in the flames while Elijah prevents Damon from intervening. Klaus tells Damon to bring him the coffin or he will kill Stefan. Damon complies and Klaus sends Elijah with him. However, Elijah and Damon returns after wards not with the coffin but with the daggers that Elijah had removed from their siblings. Elijah claims to have learned not to trust Klaus's promises and declares that this while be done on his terms. Kol then appears followed by Finn who stabs Klaus in the hand after he tries to seize the dagger. As Klaus tries to run, Rebekah appears and stabs him for 'their mother'. Klaus stumbles back and is caught by Kol. Elijah dismisses Damon and Stefan, claiming that it was 'family business.' Esther then appears and tells the originals to stop fighting. She tells Klaus to look at her and asks if he knows why she is here. When Klaus suggests that she is probably there to kill him, she says she is there to forgive him, and that she wants them all to be a family again.
The next day, Esther organizes a ball to celebrate the reunion of their family and asks Klaus who he is going to bring to the ball, stating it's going to be a magical evening. So Klaus sent an invitation and a ball dress as a present to Caroline with a note to dance with him. She appears wearing the dress and the bracelet he left in her room on her birthday. She later dances the waltz with him, asking her

Added by AnneMMadelineIn The Murder of One, Klaus and Rebekah join forces to get Finn on their side by reuniting him with Sage. He then gets Bonnie to undo Esther's linking spell. He first tries to bribe Bonnie by offering to reunite her with her mother, but when Bonnie refuses, he instead threatens to kill Jeremy. Klaus watches as Rebekah tortures Damon, but they stop when Stefan comes by and offers to trade his White Oak Stakes for Damon's freedom. Klaus then learns that there are more White Oak Stakes and that one of them was used to kill Finn.
In Heart of Darkness, Klaus tires to get the last remaining White Oak Stake, and sends Kol to stop Damon and Elena from learning of their bloodline origin. He gets impatient and eventually kills Alaric, but soon enough, he sends Rebekah to retrieve it, not knowing that Rebekah is possessed by Esther.
Added by Cori11In Do Not Go Gentle, Esther convinces Klaus to go the 1920s dance by telling him that Caroline will be there. Klaus shares a dance with Caroline. When Rebekah is absent from the dance, Stefan informs Klaus that Esther is back. After Esther is killed, Klaus states that Esther will never be able to stop him.
In Before Sunset , Klaus is informed by Rebekah that Alaric survived, and that the white oak stake has no effect on him. Rebekah wishes to leave, but Klaus states that he will no leave without Elena, causing Rebekah to get angry and state that she won't care even if he does die, before leaving. Klaus then goes to Elena's house to collect her, however Stefan and Damon bar his way. He begins attacking the house from the outside, trying to force them to invite him in, but the manage to repel him. Just as he is about to cause the place to explode, Stefan comes out and says that Alaric has captured both Elena and Caroline and will only give them up if Klaus hands himself over. Klaus initially refuse, but Bonnie comes up with a plan that will allow them to actually succeed. He then agrees, but makes it clear that after this he is taking Elena and leaving. He waits in front of the school-where Alaric has Caroline and Elena-with Stefan and the two talk, Klaus trying to drive a wedge between the brothers again.
When Stefan states that all of Klaus' attempts to break the Salvatore brothers apart has only made their bond stronger, Klaus counters by asking what will happen when Elena finally chooses between them. Then, Bonnie, Damon and Jeremy show up. Bonnie gives the vampires a vile of her blood, saying that once they drink it, all they have to do is make a connection with Alaric's heart, and she will use her magic to stop it, effectively neutralized him. After drinking the blood, Klaus enters the school with the Salvatores. He comes across Caroline and grabs her, keeping her quiet and telling her that she will be fine, and that she must get home as soon as possible, she thanks him then runs. Stefan and Damon restrain Alaric, and Klaus plunges his fingers into his heart, but Alaric manages to get free, break Stefan and Damon's necks and nearly drove his white oak stake through Klaus' heart. Ironically, Elena saved Klaus by threatening to kill herself, deducing that Esther bound Alaric's life to hers so that he could only live one life time. As she prepared to follow through with her threat Alaric went to stop her, freeing Klaus, who then ran off with her.
He then began draining Elena of all her blood, that way gaining enough blood to at least have some hybrids, while also killing off the greatest threat to him. When Elena asks why he is killing her, as he won't have an unlimited army anymore, he states that he doesn't need one as he has his family back. Elena counters saying that they will never truly trust him again, and that he is wants a back up family, which is why he is draining her blood instead of simply snapping her neck. Later, Tyler shows up and tries to free her, but Klaus finds him before he

Personality and Traits
Edit
While a human, Klaus had a complicated life, he was close with his brothers Elijah and Henrik, and his sister Rebekah whom he affectionately called Beka. However, he had a strained relationship with his father, Mikael, who was harder on him than on any of his siblings. Klaus even admitted to Rebekah that Mikael frightened him which made him constantly seek his approval without ever finding it. His mother, Esther, often tried to calm Mikael when he became angry with Klaus but she never tried to stop him from humiliating her son. This led him to resent both his parents and possibly to be jealous of his siblings for having their approval. Personality wise, Klaus is described as sadistic, careless, impulsive, emotional, quick-tempered, volatile, manipulative, jealous, obsessive and competitive. Klaus has little to no regard for human life in general, the polar opposite of his half brother, Elijah, who lives by a moral compass, has compassion and regard for human life and shows ability to feel guilt and remorse for his actions.
Unbeknownst to any, Klaus was not the son of Mikael but of a werewolf in another village which made Klaus both aggressive and angry. When they became vampires, all these emotions were heightened and Klaus's temper became worse than ever. Years of humiliation at Mikael's hands and Esther's supposed indifference, coupled with her rejection of him as her son, led Klaus to kill his own mother in revenge. After this, Klaus shut off his humanity to any but his family, killing any who crossed his path. Vengeful and power-hungry, he will stop at nothing to achieve his ends and remove those who stand in his way.
However, Klaus does not believe that death is a punishment as seen when he denies Katherine death, instead keeping her alive so that she will suffer for having betrayed him. He will also place usefulness before pleasure and keeps people alive when it suits his needs. He has also shown a penchant for working with witches which was mentioned by Katherine in Know Thy Enemy. Klaus also has a sense of honor and will not go back on his word although, like his brother Elijah, he will always look for loopholes in the deals he makes. He has also shown a sadistic side notably when he deals with humans or people who have crossed him, such as Elena, Damon and Katherine.
However, Klaus's hunger for power actually hides a deep fear of being alone which must stem from his father's treatment of him. He wants the hybrids so that he will not be the sole member of his race as Esther intended when she placed the curse on him. He also desires, beyond anything else, to be reunited with friends and family as shown by his desire to have Stefan, his one-time friend, and his family back at his side.

Changes from the Books
Edit
In the books, Klaus is of unknown age, but is at least from the Bronze Age. He seems to have fought in every major war through time, most notably in Alexander the Great's army, in the Trojan War, and in the wars that led to the Roman Empire's downfall (on the Germanic side). He then decided to stick around the general area of Germany where, sometime in the 15th century. In the books, Klaus was the one who transformed Katherine into a vampire, in the TV series, it ended up being Rose who played the part, and Klaus and Katherine's back stories have been completely changed from the books. Klaus shows great strength and durability at all times of injury and other vampires feared law. For example: Klaus manipulates the mind of Katherine to inform the brothers Salvatore's that he is dead (Katherine kills Klaus centuries ago, because he is no longer useful). Klaus continually avoids Elena messages or visions to Bonnie and Stefan. A vampire must be invited by someone to enter your home, but Klaus enters Vicki's house and violently murdered her without one. Stefan and Damon fight against Klaus, but do not do any harm. In the books, when everyone tries to fight against Klaus, all of the weapons used against him fail. Klaus more or less kills Stefan, and nearly kills Damon as well, until an intervention from Elena's spirit, leading an army's worth of unquiet Civil War ghosts against him. The ghosts carry a screaming Klaus away, and his current whereabouts (and state of being) are unknown.
It was later revealed that when he had attacked Meredith's grandfather before the books started, he had in fact been trying to capture Meredith and her twin brother Cristian. He failed to capture Meredith who became half-human, half-vampire as a result, but got Cristian who became a vampire himself. In the series, he supposedly captured Greta Martin.
Trivia
Edit
- In the Books, the character of Klaus was partially based on Rutger Hauer's character (John Ryder) in the 1986 movie The Hitcher.
- John Ryder "The Hitcher": It is not clear where he came from, who he is or what his motivation is, but the one thing that is known is that his name is John Ryder. He has a sadistic drive for killing everyone and anyone he comes across. From what it seems, he is suicidal and he's on the look out for someone to do the task for him.
- Klaus is the Original with the most appearances thus far: 23
- In the books, Klaus seems to have fought in every major war through time (Alexander the Great's army, in the Trojan War, and in the wars that led to the Roman Empire's downfall).
- In the series, Katherine meets Klaus in England but in the books, Klaus remains in Germany for centuries where Katherine is turned into a vampire.
- Klaus seriously affects the life of Katherine in the books and the series. In the books, Klaus controls the mind of Katherine and makes insane, cruel, sadistic, cold, unstable, murders, etc. In the series, Katherine was not transformed by Klaus and was never his student but she is damaged by the abandonment of her daughter, the death of her entire family and the terror of The Originals.
- Klaus was said to be the oldest vampire in the history of time in season 2, but it was revealed that Mikael was actually the oldest vampire.
- Klaus was revealed to not actually be a full vampire, but instead a half-vampire, half-werewolf hybrid.
- Klaus takes the Originals resting place everywhere he goes, but keeps them well hidden at the same time.
- In the books, Klaus is weak against the Spirits (Ghosts), because he can´t attack them. In the series, he is also somewhat weak against spirits since it's the power of the dead witches that Bonnie is using to destroy him.
- In the books, Klaus was the one who killed Vicki where as, in the series Vicki was turned into a vampire by Damon and then staked by Stefan.
- He and Stefan are the only characters to have permanently killed another main character (Jenna and Vicki respectably).
- In the books, never established if Klaus has a ring to walk in the day.
- In the books, Klaus has his first and last battle against Elena, Stefan, Damon, Bonnie, Meredith, Matt and Caroline on the 31st of October. After that, the whereabouts of Klaus and his condition remains a mystery.
- Klaus, Isobel, Rose and Katerina are the only characters thus far to have an episode named after them with Klaus being the fourth and first male.
- Klaus was introduced to Katherine Pierce on his birthday.
- In the books, Klaus is an Old One and the oldest of all vampires but in the series, Klaus is a Original/Hybrid and the oldest living Werewolf.
- In the book The Return: Midnight mentions that Klaus had Meredith's twin brother (Cristian). In the series, Greta takes the place of Cristian when she's kidnapped by Klaus.
- In the series, Klaus shares similarities with Markus Corvinus of the Underworld film series.
- Klaus manages to break the curse using four women of different species: Greta (witch), Jenna (vampire), Jules (werewolf) and Elena (doppelganger).
- In the series he corrupted Stefan like he corrupted Katherine in the books.
- Klaus is the first recurring role to be updated to series regular during their sophomore season Season 3.
- Klaus, besides Damon Salvatore, has killed the most characters in the series but most of Klaus's kills were off-screen.
- Klaus made the insinuation that Elena, Jenna and Jules are goddesses (Maiden, Mother and Crone) for the sacrifice.
- Klaus and Tyler are the only living main characters who has never been bitten by a vampire.
- In 1492, Klaus had all the elements to break the curse of the sun and the moon, but Katherine manages to escape with the Moonstone.
- In the books, Klaus was never human, but a pure blooded vampire, and was very very old in age. In the show he was once human and far younger in age than the books.
- Rebekah assumes that Klaus' reasoning for making hybrids is due to his fear of being alone.
- In Homecoming Klaus says "I will kill you and every one, you've ever met" to Stefan, this is how Katherine describes him when he's betrayed or angry. She tells this to Elena and Stefan in Katerina and Damon in The Last Day.
- Klaus is a Beatles fan as he said in The Last Dance, claiming that they made the 60s bearable.
- Of all the Originals, Klaus can be considered the most vindictive and spiteful.
- Klaus was technically killed in The Departed by Alaric Saltzman, but thanks to Bonnie Bennett he is now in Tyler Lockwood's body.
