Grove Hill, Virginia is where Isobel grew up with her best friend Trudie Peterson. It is a neighboring town to nearby Mystic Falls. Both Isobel and Trudie attended Grove Hill High school, where they were both cheerleaders. After Iosbel went missing, her parents assumed that she is dead and purchased a plot at the The Grove Hill cemetery with a headstone as a memorial to her. After an unfortunate encounter with Klaus, Isobel is compelled to kidnap Elena and bring her to the grave. While still at the grave site with Elena, Isobel recieves a call from Maddox, who relays that she 'is done.' As part of Klaus's compulsion, Isobel then removes her Lapis Lazuli necklace, and commits suicide by burning up in the sunlight.

After Jenna researches information about Elena's adoption, she finds Isobel Peterson written in Grayson's medical records. Assuming that Isobel used a fake last name, Jenna Bings Isobel's name on the Internet and discovers Trudie Peterson, an old friend of Isobel's. In a picture of the two as cheerleaders, Jenna discovers Isobel's surname is really Flemming. Jenna finds Trudie's address, located at 312 Boulders Ave. Elena visits her in hopes of finding more information about her mother, since she was under the assumption that Isobel was dead. When Elena arrives, Trudie does not invite Elena in, and later offers her tea spiked with vervain. Trudie then sends a text message to the Mystery Man. After Elena leaves, the Mystery Man murders Trudie by pushing her down the stairs in her own home.

Henry, a tomb vampire, also resided in Grove Hill, VA, where Damon and Alaric discover him in what they assumed was Isobel's apartment. After asking him a few brief questions, Alaric stakes Henry when he realizes that they aren't exactly who they say they are.

In Bring It On, at the cheerleading competition, Grove Hill High School is Mystic Falls High School's competitor. Elena later attacks one of the cheerleaders, taking advantage of the fact that Grove Hill's water supply doesn't have vervain in it, and feeds on her. She takes the girl's hair ribbon as a trophy. Later that night, she throws a party at the Salvatore Boarding House where she invites students from other schools, including Grove Hill.
