Emily Bennett was an extremely powerful witch who lived during the 19th century. She's also an ancestor of the Bennett Bloodline.

HistoryEdit

Emily Bennett was born in the early 1800's along the bay colony of London, New England. At some point during her life, Emily returned to America, were she became the handmaiden of a vampire named Katherine Pierce. After Katherine took Emily under her wing, later on the two women became close friends, until Katherine betrayed Emily by informing the city counsel that Emily was a witch. Fearing the fate of her children, Emily promised Damon Salvatore that she would cast a spell to protect Katherine, in exchange for protecting her family. After Emily was burned at the stake by the Founding Families, her possessions taken (including her Grimoire) were buried in earth with Giuseppe Salvatore.

Wouldn't it be great if they bring a bennett witch to town similer to emily looks and her power, so bonnie can have someone to look up to and learn more about the bennett line, someone that knows vampires very well?

The only significantly powerful spell she was known for casting in the show was the tomb spell. To cast that spell, she harnessed the energy from the comet passing by at the time, as witches can harness power from celesial events. I don't think she was known for casting any other unusually powerful spells.

She protected the tomb vampires because she and Damon had an agreement that Damon would protect her descendants and she would protect Katherine by enchanting the spell. After the vampire's hunting, her secret, being witch, was revealed and she was burnt; however, her descendants was safe by Damon.

I don't understand Emily. If she was fighting against vampires secretly and helping Jonathan Gilbert by spelling his inventions, why did she bother saving the tomb vampires?

She saved the entomed vampires because she made a deal with Damon. The deal was that Damon will protect the Bennett family line from danger until the comet arrives again (145 years), and in exchange, Emily will protect Katherine from burning in the church, but to do that, she had to save all the other vampires as well, because, as she put it, "With one comes all".
