There are several flashbacks from 1922. They start with ("The End of The Affair").
Word was the ripper of Monterrey got lonely, so he escaped to the city for comfort. It was prohibition. Everything was off limits then, which made everything so much fun.d
At first, Stefan was intrigued by Rebekah, and Klaus hated him. Eventually, Rebekah fell in love with Stefan, and Klaus admired Stefan's sadistic vein. The two men bonded to the point that Klaus told Stefan he had forgotten what it was like to have a brother.
But one day Gloria's bar was invaded by policemen who were using wooden bullets, indicating that they knew about vampires. Klaus tells Rebekah that it's time to leave the place, and he compels Stefan to forget about them. Rebekah does not want to flee without Stefan, and Klaus tells her to choose between him or Stefan. Rebekah chooses Stefan, so Klaus daggers her. One of the policemen (Mikael), approaches Stefan and asks him if he has ever seen Klaus and Rebekah. Because he was under compulsion, Stefan answers that he had never seen those two before.
He sees Rebekah's necklace on the floor and picks it up.
Like she has done for most of the decades, Katherine was keeping an eye on Stefan. She saw Rebekah's necklace before Stefan and almost took it.
